What the heck was that abortion on Masterpiece Theater last night? Was there ANY level on which that show worked? And what the heck was it doing on MT?
I turned it off around 9 oclock. Someone please tell me that that odious toad got flattened by one of his beloved motorcars. Poop poop my ass!
You held on longer than I did. It was painful.
I think the producers got it on Masterpiece Theater by showing the people in charge the costumes. “Yes, these are the costumes we are going to use, so as you can see we qualify as an official Masterpiece Theater production.”
I caught about 10 minutes of it and it was dreck, crap and distracting. It looked like they were inspired by an interesting Alice adaptation* I saw a few years back, but failed to make this even watchable. I left it quickly. The lead actor was terrible in the 10 minutes of overacting I saw. A Brit comedian I gather.

ETA: It was on Masterpiece Theatre because it was British, if it is a British dramatic presentation, it must be worthy of Masterpiece Theatre after all.
My eldest, a college freshman was home for the weekend, and was on a bus back to school when this aired. She is a HUGE MT fan - the only show she watches on a regular basis - and was very happy that I offered to tape this for her to watch later.
As a loving father I am uncertain whether it would be kinder of me to hang on to the tape for her, or to tell her that the VCR malfunctioned…
I didn’t watch it, but out of curiosity, I checked the credits list. The director, interestingly enough, is Rachel Talalay, who made Tank Girl in 1995 and has been relegated to TV ever since.
Dinsdale - I have edited the title of the thread to be more descriptive. “MT - WitW - WTF” looks like some sort of bizarre computer coding.
I didn’t see it, or even know about it before opening this thread. From your link, it looks somewhat similar to the Terry Jones version, which I quite liked.
It’s funny, when I first saw that thread title I thought, in a joking way, “Masterpiece Theater: The Wind in the Willows”. Guess it was no joke.
My dog doesn’t show much interest in TV generally, even when we put it on Animal Planet. For this one, though, she curled up in front of the couch and watched the entire show, riveted.
Make of that what you will.
