Vending Machines, Condom Sales in Maryland
Title 10, Subsection 52, Chapter 04 (Condom Vending Machines) of COMAR (code of maryland regulations) states
House Bill 11 was passed and signed by Governor Glendening earlier this year.
It may very well be likely that a specific county or city in maryland has made it unlawful in their jurisdiction to sell condoms in vending machines, but in no way is that true for the entire state.
Sudan, the Congo, Somalia, and Afghanistan spring to mind.

In general, in Islam no one is supposed to look at another person’s genitalia. (An exception is made for husband and wife making love, of course!) The general principle is that private things are supposed to be kept really private. As for using a brick??? Beats me. Either that was made up, or it’s one of those culture-specific ad hoc things that someone just made up somewhere and wouldn’t apply in another country. Who knows which country that item referred to, and what the local practices are there? Once, just once, I wish the jokers who compile these e-mail factoid lists would include citations of their source material! So Dopers poring over them could get some idea of the context as well as the validity of the reports.
Last time I visited Maryland, I spotted a prophylactic-vending machine in the restroom of a University. This goes well along with the earlier-quoted statute (no sales in K-12 schools) in showing that the original e-mail was full of it.
And people, ya got to chill a bit. I read tlw as pointing out that Guam is a part of the Greater USA, not some dark and unknown region of strange ways (aka “bizarre and bassackwards nation”. Example: Taliban Afghanistan. TELL ME that was NOT a “bizarre and bassackward” state). NOWHERE do I read tlw insinuating that being non-USA was what made a nation “bassackward”, only that the Greater USA isn’t.
[sub]I know, I know (and understand)… a lot of people in and out of the USA like to think it IS “bassackward” (or certainly bizarre!) based on such things as executions, the 2000 election, the Bottafuocos, creationism and Who Wants to Marry A Millionaire on FoxTV… but that’s another story.[/sub]
