matt mcl, Hamish, LaurAnge - Recommend a B&B in downtown Montreal, SVP. :)

Any chance one of you kind Montrealers can suggest a B&B for me? Given my rather poor knowledge of spoken French, there’s a good chance of me booking my boss into a meat packing plant, as opposed to a B&B if I go it alone!

So - he’s traveling in August and will be attending a conference at the Palais des Congrès de Montreal and was hoping for something within walking distance of the conference site. Price wise - $200/night or less would be nice, but I appreciate that in downtown Montreal in summer that may not be possible.

Any thoughts? Do any of you know of a nice B&B that might be suitable? FWIW, his French is much better than mine, so an exclusively Francophone place is fine.

Thanks in advance!!

Well, it is not a B & B, but it is located just acrosss the street from the Palais des Congrès, the Chinatown Holiday Inn

That’s actually one of the “suggested” hotels for the conference. However, it’s to be a B&B this trip.

Thanks for the help anyhow, though.

Maybe this site will be of some help then.

Unfortunately, as I have never had to stay in a hotel in Montreal (for obvious reasons), I have no knowledge at all of stuff like this.

I’m sorry, I wish I could have helped!

Heh. The only B&Bs I know of are gay ones (not that there’s anything wrong with that.) Would that help?

The funny thing is, locals are probably the ones who are the least likely to be able to answer your query. You usually don’t need b&b’s very often when you have an appartment there.

I lived in Montreal for over 10 years and I don’t think I’ve ever seen the inside of a hotel room.

Looking at detop’s link, though, I have to say that the first one on the list looks great. Look at those guest suites! And within your price range, too. Appart from that, the three around the Old Port seem really swell, too.

What’s a “Gay” B&B? You can only stay there if you’re gay? The owners are gay? B&B is a gay code word for something else?

I’m kinda confused.

Thank you detop!!

I’ve booked this place, which seems to be within walking distance.

Regarding native Montrealer’s not knowing where to stay in town - I’ve got to say I find that sort of odd - I’m a native Calgarian and I can think of about 20 hotels and B&B’s off the top of my head, in just about every part of the city. However, I suppose it’s possible that I have more out of town guests.

Oh well - problem solved (provided it doesn’t turn out that the neighbouring building is a crack den :D)

Just so you know, it’s not that close, though still walkable. Also, the immediate neighbourhood isn’t necessarilly the nicest place in town at night, IME. Still, the interior looks nice.
