The title of the article says it all. I’ve almost brought this article up in a couple of threads, but didn’t want to sidetrack them, so here it is. I know people love to hate Taibbi for being partisan (thus The Pit. Have at him!), but this whole piece is devoted to tearing the Ds apart, and rightly so. Obama comes off as cowardly and ineffectual, and Congress as greedy and clueless. Max Baucus scares the shit out of me.
I knew things were being fucked up, but somehow I underestimated how thoroughly. It seems our leaders are basically just trying to find the right bill to make the industry big wigs as happy as they can be, while making it just confusing enough to pass off as “reform”. You know… kinda like they “fixed” the finance industry. We will probably end up with something that makes things worse for the people, better for the profiteers, and doesn’t fix anything in between. Then the Ds will have a victory parade!
There are some pretty scary proposals out there. The one that sticks with me …

The whole damn thing just sucks. I almost wish they’d just leave it as is, so that an actual crisis could hurry up and happen to bring single payer back on the table (yeah right, I know…). Fuck Max Baucus. Fuck Nancy Pelosi. Fuck Harry Reid. And if he should sign this garbage they’re compiling … Fuck Barack Obama too. He has really made a fool of himself with this whole affair. Hillary must be laughing her as off every day.
