And he double downed about how Fox can’t sue him since it’s true.
Celebrity feuds aren’t uncommon but it’s really surprising seeing one this specific. Though I do wonder if Monaghan may also have been drunk or otherwise impaired since if he’d been sober he’d have known “this won’t end quietly”.
On the one hand, I’m a little skeptical, simply because doing something that awful when you’re in the public eye just seems like an amazingly stupid thing to do. On the other hand, people in the public eye do awful things all the time; maybe celebrity makes you stupid?
It took me a bit to figure out the meaning of the title. To me, it looked like a TV show named “Matthew Fox Beats Women” was lost, according to Monaghan. For future reference, it is acceptable to put quotation marks around show titles when italics is not possible, e.g. “Matthew Fox Beats Women” says former ‘Lost’ co-star Dominic Monaghan.
Now that you’ve said it, I see it - :smack:
Reported to request title update.
I barely dip my toe in pop culture of the gossip variety, but I have heard of many goings-on with Fox. Drunk driving, accused of punching a female bus driver, one or two other things - enough to be left with the impression that *something *may be going on with Fox, that he is troubled somehow.
This accusation takes things to a somewhat different level, though - and how often do you hear about costar-on-costar accusations of that specific, criminal/amoral nature (vs. “she’s a bitch,” “he’s a bastard” chirping)? ETA: what **Sampiro **said, including the likelihood that Monaghan didn’t necessarily think this through…
Done.
Thank you Marley!
Well what exactly is wrong with shaming a batterer of women? If Monaghan KNOWS Fox beats women repeatedly, what is so wrong with him saying so? Are we advocating silence here?
Because if he knew of any incidents, he should have reported it to proper authorities, the police. Forming a lynch mob via the internet is not what he should do.
I didn’t start the thread with that intent, no. Per, Zebra, it is more the fact that this could been seen as a “shot across the bow” of a Big Internet Kerfuffle (BIK)/Lynching (if an internet mob forms around it), which may or may not have criminal implications, but could certainly leave Fox contemplating some sort of return “nuclear option” in order to defend his reputation…
I mean, wouldn’t need to respond? If he said nothing, would something like this just die down? Wouldn’t he need to speak to it whenever he will need to do press work for whatever project he acts in next?
Well it really depends on what his knowledge is. Did he witness it? Heard it second hand? Third? Fourth?
I have no trouble believing Monaghan on this. Matthew Fox has demonstrated repeatedly that he’s a Grade-A dirtbag.
I’m sure Fox has some serious daddy issues. It’s complicated, but we’ll see how this turns out.
Bastard probably kicked Vincent as well.
Actually, if you watch the behind-the-scenes stuff for Lord of the Rings, Mr. Monaghan was constantly ragging on Viggo Mortensen in a good-natured way about his curious relationship with his horse.
Good-natured banter about beastiality and such in the workplace is unsurprising and even expected. Accusing a co-worker of serial battery in a public forum is not and there had better be some fire under that smoke for DM’s sake.
There’s plenty of stupid people not in the public eye. Stupid’s pervasive.
I heard there is a mysterious third party who claims to have vital information about this matter, but he/she doesn’t have time to explain!
Well he need only tell what he knows to be the truth, if he has any direct knowledge and that would be OK. Doesn’t have to be able to personally PROVE Fox is a batterer of women. Something like, “I’ve spoken with three of his ex-girlfriends and they all say he hit them.” That would do it. As you see, it will depend on what his knowledge is. For example, it’s OK for me to say, “I heard that Matthew Fox beats up women,” if I then explain, “I read it on an internet message board” so everyone knows I am just saying crap.
That said, I suspect that Monaghan’s willingness to publicly diss the guy probably is because he has spoken with one of Fox’s ex girlfriends and heard he beat her up. He might be dumb enough to just say it on third-hand knowledge, but the firsthand stuff is more likely.
