Matthew Lillard, Tony Shalhoub and a torso, oh my! *SPOILERS*

I watched Thirteen Ghosts on HBO late Saturday night. It was bad but it wasn’t that bad.

See, I’ve this thing for gore. I can’t get enough of it! Whenever a horror movie is released, one of the first things I check is the rating. Rated PG-13? Not enough gore. Don’t get me wrong, no gore doesn’t automatically equal bad (e.g. *The Sixth Sense), but I likes me gore in a horror movie.

Back to the movie. Thirteen Ghosts was a fairly entertaining hour and twenty-some odd minutes of mindless dreck. Yeah, it was predictable, yeah, the plot holes were big enough to drive a Ford Excursion through and, yeah, it had Shannon Elizabeth it but it wasn’t so bad that I had to turn the channel.

So there you have it. I didn’t dislike it (but I admit it was bad) and I may even (read: will) buy the DVD to see the making of the ‘ghosts’.

I was entertained by the flick, probably more than I expected.

Bleck!

I thought it was pretty good. It was at the limit of my gore limit, though. For me, in regards to gore “less is more.” I love horror movies because I like to be scared, and in fact plan to see two back to back on Halloween day (Ghost Ship and The Ring) but my tolerance for blood is relatively low. I’ve never managed to watch an 80’s slasher film all the way through…

I remember thinking it was all right, too. Tony Shaloub in anything adds to it, and Matthew Lillard is always fun to watch. It wasn’t great horror, but a halfway interesting concept and an enjoyable film.

I really miss Tony Shaloub’s TV series, though… the comedy in which he played a horror writer. Pure genius, that was.
