Maudite Beer

Alright, I’ve just purchased and consumed some “Maudite” beer, a Canadian beer that I typically have a hard time finding. The origin of the beer’s name has become very interesting to me, however I’ve had some trouble researching it.

Now, I must preface this with ‘I’ve just consumed some of the beer’, so if it’s a little disjointed, you’ll understand.

In any event, supposedly this beer revolves around a legend about some Lumberjacks who meet up with the devil (or strike a deal with the devil?) and make Satan give them a ‘ride in a canoe’ home. Sounds sort of weird, but whenever I google it, all I get are sites in french.

Needless to say, if anyone has an english version of the legend/myth/etc I’d appreciate hearing it.

You may have better luck if you Google the phrase above. La légende de la chasse-galerie is the french phrase. If you do google that you may find a play with songs and music in a PDF format (I won’t link it here) but that may be what yer after. Additionally, for a synopsis of one take on the legend try here.
