Max has crossed Rainbow Bridge

Hickory Dog got a big Ol’ Field Mouse yesterday! She didn’t try to eat it, but instead offered it to me. I dedicated it to Max.

My Fucking Crew are Stone Killers.

They’re dachshunds. Death from the ankle down! I’m sure Max is happy to have another notch on his collar in doggy heaven.

I’m SO sorry, hon! Losing someone you love is bad enough, but having to make the unselfish decision to end that life is yet another arrow in your heart! Just remember the years of love and care that you gave him which he otherwise would not have received had you no adopted him!

My sister said she was looking at pictures of him from about January on, and she said the deterioration was obvious in the pics. You can’t always see IRL what photos can show you. Reinforces that we made the right decision.

I still miss him.

Being given a life to love is a blessing, but the price is a heavy one.

Yes, indeed. We rescued Fleury about 12 years ago and only had her six months, but it’s amazing the hole she left.

So sorry for your loss, @carrps.

Thanks, John, seeing your dog and others’ on this board and IRL helps me with dog withdrawals.

I concur. My first dog was an abandoned chiweenie, and she was run over a little over two months after I got her. But I loved her dearly, and fellow Dopers consoled me that she had two good months at least. Maybe she will meet Max over the Bridge and they will play together.

Oh yes. Have you ever read Kipling’s poem “The Power of the Dog”? It speaks about how we love a dog, knowing their lives are shorter and we will lose them.

That love is almost immediate, isn’t it? And with Fleury it was almost immediate from her to me. I think she finally felt safe.

I’m sure Max’s health and cognitive function have returned in spades, and he’s happily playing with your chiweenie. Twins!
