Maximum memory for Dell Latitude C640 Series laptop?

It currently has 256, and the 512 I ordered just came in. So is this just a straight replacement? Or (if there is more than one slot, which I don’t know) is 768 even possible?

I’m hardware illiterate.

The Dell Latitude has two memory slots.

If you have 256, then you have either 1 256 and one empty slot, or 2 128 slots.

If you have an empty slot, then 768 is possible, since the laptop will take a maximum of 1 GB memory.

If you have the 2 128’s configuration, then you’ll have to take one out to put your 512 in, and you’ll have 640.
