May day is May 1.
IIRC, May day was originally a celebration of the coming of summer and the process of planting fields and it goes back several centuries. In the 1800s the labor movement adopted it as an occasion to protest for better working conditions, etc…
Sort of like December 25 was taken over by Christians from its original pagan roots.
Its still a big event in Europe, as I understand, but never took root in the U.S., and most Americans have probably never heard of it.
