Mayanists! Need Recommendations!

Well, I have always been interested in Mesoamerican archaeology, but a recent trip to Palenque really sealed the deal for me - I want to, in effect, study up on the field.

While I was travelling in Mexico, I read an old favorite - the 19th century classic Incidents of Travel in Central America, Chiapas, and Yucatan and Incidents of Travel in Yucatan, which was an awesome read (and has the most awesome illustrations!).

When I got back, I wanted some more recent scholarship. Acting on a recommendation, I ordered Linda Schele and David Freidel’s “A Forest of Kings”, which is an awesome read (I’m halfway through); but it is 25 years old.

I have on order the following books:

My question to you folks - is there anything else you would recommend? You can see the sort of thing I’m after - reasonably comprehensive but general histories, to bring me more or less up to date with current scholarship … any suggestions welcome.
