Jim Wright’s book deal, you mean. And, you know, there was also the Water Mills thing, Abscam, the Keating 5, the House Banking scandal ), and so on. So, it’s not like Congress was entirely clean when the Democrats were running it either. I think there is a greater lovel of corruption now, though.
Ever since this Sunday’s Doonesbury, I’ve been thinking of our two parties as Fear and Loathing.

Yes.
Well, I already mentioned the House Banking Scandal (the post-office, check kiting thing is all the same, and since Rostenkowski was indicted for that, we’ve now alluded to the same thing with three or four different terms. As to Abscam and the Keating 5, I wasn’t going back 26 years when I made my list, but I think that’s fine - compare the Democrats list of scandals from 20 years to the Republicans 6 - it’s a massive magnification in frequency and intensity of problem behavior that I think suggests there isn’t much basis to predict that the Democrats will do the same.
Also, let’s not forget that one of the Keating 5 was the Straight Shooting John McCain himself, hardly a Democrat, and the thing is named after a Republican (Charles Keating), for chrissakes!
You can always gauge how desperate the Republicans are by how shrill and inane Shodan’s accusations become.
