McAfee registration problems

So my old McAfee subscription ran out, and this time, I bought a new version. (Virus Scan Plus, rather than Internet Security, the only REAL difference being that VSP doesn’t have parental controls, or indentity theft protection – but I’m going to check on that later.)

So I registered the new product, but it’s STILL asking me to register everyday and update the old one, and it doesn’t seem to have an option to cancel it. Anyone else familiar with this? SHOULD I just go back to the old one? Or will it tell me that I have TWO subscriptions I need to update?

I’m generally happy with the way McAfee works, but the registration is a freaking NIGHTMARE.
(And before anyone asks, YES, the new product is fully activated. I’m just sick of the old subscription notice bothering me, with no option to say, “disable this”)

This related experience may help you out. I bought a 3-computer version of their Total Protection software. After that, my son bought an Acer laptop that had a 30-day trial version preloaded. When the trial ran out, he couldn’t get his laptop set up using my 3-computer license. After about an hour together on the phone, we finally found info in the tech self-help system that said he had to unload the trial version (using an app McAfee provided) before he could load the full version from my license. Another half-hour and he was all set.
