I agree that it is a sleazy tactic, but frankly I wish the Dems would engage in some sleaze themselves. Too often do they stick their noses in the air and say, “We won’t lower ourselves to these kinds of politics” while watching the election slip away.

How about:

[li]Do you believe Sen McCain’s previous health problems and bouts with cancer will affect his ability to be president?[/li][li]If Sen McCain’s cancer were to return and he were to die within the next year, would you be comfortable with Gov Palin as president?[/li][li]If Gov Palin is convicted of a crime in Alaska, should she step down?[/li][/ul]

I’m sure the Republicans wouldn’t mind if that sort of thing occurred, right?

And those are all reasonable questions, based on reality. It’s not like you have to make stuff up to raise serious doubts about the McCain/Palin ticket.

Which campaign hired Karl Rove’s spiritual descendant? Oh yeah, McCain. The same maverick good ol’ boy who was so furious when he was on the receiving end of filth and lies spread about him in the last election. McCain is responsible; it’s his campaign, he set the tone and the buck stops with him. If he hadn’t already decided to ‘go negative’ out of desperation, McCain could have reclaimed some statesmanlike credibility by pointedly apologizing to McCain and condemning the tactic. Would have been great PR, in fact.

I don’t know. Given that McCain is now against bills he initiated, I wouldn’t say him apologizing to himself is out of the question. And, before Nov. 4, more likely than him apologizing to Obama.
