McCain Gaffe Thread

I propose a thread for McCain’s gaffes. If someone wishes to start an Obama gaffe thread be my guest. Let’s start…

Sunni/Shia:
McCain has frequently mistaken the difference between Sunni and Shia

Climate Change:

Except for maybe, this bill co-sponsored by McCain and Obama.
President Putin of Germany?
Troop levels:
McCain asserts we have reduced troop levels to below pre-surge levels. Not quite Senator.
Lying about what he said:
McCain tries to deny saying he wasn’t an expert on the economy

McCain denies bashing Media while praising Hillary.

What’s the debate here? Seems more like Pit material.

May we add the boners committed by his campaign? If so, this Daily Kos thread has a collection of product reviews posted on the site selling McCain campaign stuff, until someone finally noticed just what kind of comments they were and disabled the feature.

Warning: For proper monitor maintenance, clear oral cavities of all liquids before reading.

Stroll-Gate

(McCain lies about being able to walk safely in Baghdad neighborhoods, claims Gen. Petraeus rides around in an unarmed humvee, then denies having said it)

Fair enough, if a mod wishes to move, that’d be okely-dokely.

One of McCain’s advisors stated yesterday that Obama’s economic plan was flawed because it did not include any tax cuts. However, Obama’s plan calls for cutting the taxes of 95% of the American people, which to be fair, is almost the same as “none”.

That cannot be true, because 34% of Americans (as of 2004, anyway), did not pay taxes.

How 'bout when, during his speech to the Democratic electorate on the night Obama clinched, he said we have to give “hot bottled water to dehydrated babies”.

I’m still scratching my head over that.

When he mistakenly said that the media was unduly harsh on Clinton and then, two days later, mistakenly said he never said any such thing. What a funny mistake that was.

Or how he slipped up and said he was against the Confederate flag flown as a state flag but really meant the flag represents heritage and good things like that.

Then there are the biggies. Like when he said he’s for the troops and then voted against the GI bill and when he said he was against torture-- even going so far as to sponsor an anti-torture bill and then-- oopsie!-- going whole hog for Military Commissions act and against the Intelligence Authorization Act.

He’s a gaffe a minute, is McCain.

So was Reagan. Don’t get cocky.

“I will veto every single beer.”

Don’t worry, I keep my cock attached to my husband.

He did not vote against it.

He didn’t vote at all, but he publicly opposed it, so, same difference. He says he’s for the troops but also says that a kid who gets his legs blown off in Iraq doesn’t deserve a free education if it was his first tour.

My gaffe. He spoke against it so much I thought he put his money where is mouth was.

Cite? The only time he said anything at all was after Obama got up on his partisan soap box and accused him of being against the troops. At which point he defended his position on supporting an alternative GI bill, which still increased the monthly benefit by 35%.

I seem to remember that he started the green backdrop speech with “grood evening”. This is a minor, minor mis-speak and reflects not at all poorly upon the man or his accomplishments.

However- me and the gf cannot stop thinking that the phrase “grood evening” is super hilarious. The good/grood subsititution has been all over our conversation for the last week.

I remember reading in the immediate aftermath someone saying that you can’t expect good things from a speech when you start off with “Grood Evening.” It’s just so stupid and funny.

Besides, taking a policy position can hardly be called a gaffe. If I sponsor a bill to give every returning soldier a free Porsche and a Mercedes Benz, can I say Obama isn’t “for the troops” if he votes against it?

So you admit he claims to care about the troops but that he contradicts himself by trying to chisel them down on their benefits. He thinks that a full college education is too generous for wounded Iraq vets.

It belies his claim that he gives a crap about the troops (so does his support for keeping them in Iraq at all, for that matter).
