McDonald's: don't eat our food

This could be a very smart move. McDonald’s realizes that they’re probably nearing a saturation point (if they haven’t, already). Testing it out in France, where they have a notoriously bad public image, ain’t a bad idea either. Plus, if it flops, who cares? France is probably a very small market for them, but not so small (or different, from larger markets) that results there can’t be extrapolotated out onto a larger scale.

Why not opt for the obvious?

Could McDonald’s be trying to expand their market in France?
People who stop by all the time will continue to stop by all the time.
McDonald’s has them.
By getting nutritionists to say “It’s okay to go by two times a week,” they may be trying to appeal to a market that currently goes by zero times a week.

Health nazis? Give me a break. Those “health nazis” agendas are mostly to get people aware of what they eat. When people point out “uh, hey, did you know Fettucini Alfredo is just about the worst thing for your arteries you can eat?”, they get branded with terms like “health nazi” and “food police”. Evidently it’s much preferable to live in ignorance about what you eat.

Avumede,

I googled tax fast food and here are some links:

http://abcnews.go.com/sections/us/DailyNews/obesityblame020122.html

So, you see, they are not just trying to inform the public. They are trying to force people to eat what they deem appropriate. They are thinking about suing Fast Food companies and raising taxes. That IS NOT simply trying to inform consummers.

BTW, those were the first two links that came up on google.

Like when I was living in Bristol, in far SW VA. The health Nazis there had upped the sales tax in restaurants to over 10%, to discourage the local populace from eating stuff that was bad for them.

What, you say? Oh yeah: you could’ve held the local Health Nazi convention in a VW Beetle; it’s a pretty conservative area. It was just the most painless way for them to raise revenue for local government.

RTFirefly,

What, exactly, is your point?
