Basically like the coffee lids with an added bump to latch your lip on. They may replace straws but I don’t think they will replace the straw experience.
If it is anything like the Starbucks version of this, it won’t work very well. With iced drinks, the ice clogs up the hole and very little comes out.
The straw experience is to limit the exposure of the drink to taste buds. Everything tastes better without a straw!
Oh, no. The high speed blast from the straw imprints the taste buds with the flavor of the drink. It’s like homeopathic medicine - no one knows how it works but, ah, no one knows how it works.
I noticed recently that Qdoba is doing something similar. Eh, whatever. I rather enjoy a nice straw, but as long as the lid provides enough of a barrier that there isn’t any spillage when I put the to-go cup in my car, I guess it’s not the biggest deal.
You mean fast food places are now offering sippy cups for adults?
I guess that’s one way to deal with the issue of straws having become suspect.
I can hardly wait for the first photo of a salmon with a sippy lid in it’s mouth.
The local Costco has introduced the sippy-cup lids. They work well! There’s a little tab of plastic you push in to allow the liquid to flow out. That same tab also prevents ice from blocking the sip.
I use lids like that frequently. At the Subway I go to, the coffee lids will fit on the soda cups. I do that all the time and it work just fine. I prefer it. I don’t like straws at all. Why do people use straws?
I use a straw because I’m less likely to spill on myself while driving. Because I don’t like those flimsy plastic straws that come with most drinks, I have my own straw that goes everywhere with me. The one I am currently using is about 3 years old and is dishwasher safe. (I still hand wash it daily, I don’t think the dishwasher can clean the insides well.)
Is it stainless steel or just heavy plastic?
Heavy plastic, I don’t like the taste or feeling of metal straws. Usually my straws only last about a year because I bleach them at times which really degrades the plastic, this one is impressing me.
Because it’s easy while driving? Because otherwise I have to strain ice with my teeth? Lots of reasons.
I have to laugh at my wrong reading of the title: I thought McD was introducing lawless kids,
I hope there’s still a hole for a regular straw. I have a straw in the car that gets used and washed regularly.
I thought it was strawless lips
Just poke a hole in the lid.
The franchised Dutch Bros. coffee kiosk company has been using “sippy cup” lids for quite a long time, since around 2014, I think.
I tried to find a link to show them better, but pictures of them on the interwebs are scarce.
Item #4 shows them.
I really like ice. I don’t want anything between me and the ice. So, no straw unless there’s a compelling reason, at a ball game or theater, maybe driving. But, restaurants always try to push them around here. “Do you need a straw? Who needs a straw?”
Radar O’Reilly: We don’t use straws on the front!
Was that comment made in reference to a Grape Nehi?
