Meal ideas for a non meat eater who doesnt like cheese, egg or pasta

Heylo

I was wondering if people have meal (breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks) ideas for a non-meat eater (but eats fish), who doesn’t like eggs, cheese, pasta, bread or garlic?

I’ve done a lot of soups and mashes of various vegetables, but do you have any other ideas?

thank you

Sound like a lot of rice in this person’s future.

Explore the richness of Indian cuisine regarding their use of lentils, rice, and chickpeas with various spices and other vegetables.

Hummus is good too.

1 pound fresh tuna steaks, each one inch thick
white flour as needed (with salt and pepper, if you wish)
1 tablespoon butter (or more)
6 teaspoons stone-ground mustard (more as needed, add a little creamed horseradish if you like it)
2 tablespoons panko crumbs (if your guest really hates bread, use crushed lightly-toasted nuts )
Dredge tuna in flour. Melt half of butter and saute over medium-high heat for seven minutes on one side. Coat uncooked, upright side thickly with mustard. Sprinkle breadcrumbs onto mustard, pressing lightly with a clean finger to make the breadcrumbs adhere. Add remainder of butter if needed to keep tuna from sticking. Reduce heat to medium, carefully flip fish, and saute for five to seven minutes or until tuna is no longer pink.

Yes lots!!

Unfortunately there is too much garlic in all of that!

Alton Brown’s Salmon Fillet en Papillote with Julienne Vegetableis very good, but unless you love salt the way the thing that ate Crewman Darnell loves salt, use about half of what alton calls for.

Beans & Rice. Probably not as good without the ham/sausage flavoring, but still edible.

You could make your own hummus, although I forgot to include garlic there.

Oh no, not all by any means. Many Indian dishes are made without garlic due to the beliefs of some Hindus and the Jains. They may contain asafoetida instead; I will say the aroma is similar but I don’t think the taste is all that similar, from my experience. And not all recipes for people who follow this style of eating contain the spice, either.

You know, I think some people are meant to starve.

Noway!! Now that just wouldn’t be fair

The “no garlic” bit is going to turn off a LOT of Indian dishes. Still, if you’re willing to cook for yourself you could adapt a lot of Indian recipes and do well without garlic. There are a lot of recipes here and while many of them use garlic, they could be cooked without it in most circumstances.

How about tofu? you can use a lot of marinades and sauces intended for meat or poultry. It’s also good sauteed with vegetables.

I think that is true. I travelled around all of India and felt like I was a piece of garlic the entire time, but like Ferret Herder said, there are alternatives.

Yes tofu is good, i like that a lot.

Try Thai or Malaysian - tom yum soup, or a laksa.
Don’t like pasta? How about gnocchi.
Mexican food can be made without garlic, and that’s good for veges.
Japanese - stir fried yakisoba noodles
Mussels with pommes frites (or chips to everyone else) - with or without the mayo
Bouillabaisse - skip the garlic
Smoked fish pie, without the hard boiled eggs
A fish tagine
Pan-fried snapper with ginger

In fact Cuisine is a good resource for great recipes with clear indications of what is not included.

Lately, I have been enjoying simple plain sweet potatoes. Pierce one with a fork, then microwave it on a paper towel for 5 minutes. Fresh fruit is also great, I like grapefruit, apples, and pears. You could also go with rice. Microwave a bowl of rice with some peas and broccoli, then add a dash of chili sauce and soy sauce.

I have a fantastic recipe for stuffed winter squash (acorn or butternut). It involves mushrooms, walnuts, breadcrumbs, and yummy non-garlic seasonings. If this sounds good, I’ll get you the full recipe.

Have you tried spaghetti squash? They’re a delicious alternative to pasta. Hugely expensive and impractical for dinner for one though. That reminds me, I need to cook the spaghetti squash I have in my fridge soon.

Enjoy,
Steven
