Meaning of "Blurred Lines"

Jeez, it’s “mug me.” He clearly wants to be assaulted and robbed by the woman in question, duh.

I’ve seen several possibilities but “Please don’t drug me” fits this thread the best.

Oh come on… “Drug me?”

Is that phrase meant to be an example of the song being sexist, or sex negative? Because I’ve heard that phrase more than a few times in real life, and the experiences have generally been pretty sex positive, if you take my meaning.

And generally haven’t involved any women.

OMGZ, that’s pillage! There’s no consent!

I enthusiastically support that.

Though maybe “enthusiastic” conveys a little too strongly? I mean, *“well, I wasn’t really expectin’ to, but as long as you’re makin’ a suggestion and I had nothing else planned, I’m up for it if you are…” * is pretty affirmative if not rarin-to-go “enthusiastic”

That it does. They knew where to borrow from and the production/mixing was well done.

Sounds super to tons of women who like rough sex and dirty talk.

I’m just not ok with telling a woman that she’s the hottest bitch in this place, no matter how hot of a bitch she is.

:stuck_out_tongue:

He actually just says he’s got something big enough to be capable of splitting her ass in two, rather than that he intends to do so.

Really? Seriously? What do you do for a living that so many people are coming to you crying for hugs?

God I hate hyperbole.

Social worker? Counselor? Doctor? Nurse?

Hey, remember that Seinfeld episode where Jerry got all roll-eyes with his girlfriend the dermatologist who “saved someone’s life” because he figured she was milking the hyperbole? It was skin cancer, you hipster.

I’m a minister (Priestess, neopagan division) and a nurse, and I run first aid at a number of festivals where assault does sometimes unfortunately happen.

I love you.

Knew it. Nurse, is chronic cynicism treatable?

Yes.

Step one: Turn off the internet.

A data point: one Tumblr user’s round up of what (s)he finds offensive in the song/video.

Then you are failing, and failing even more now that you seem to think you have the right to tell people what is music. Apparently thinking of this as a song is an “invalid response.” You are telling everyone in this thread that they are stupid for even discussing the topic. There is just no other reason to share this opinion of yours.

I inform you of this so that maybe you will reform and stop performing this action, as thinking of you as “smug” is the least of what people will do for this type of action. Something is not “not a song” because you don’t like it, and people aren’t giving invalid responses if they try to understand said song. You are giving the invalid response by pretending like certain facts are up for debate.

No, not by definition. Being degraded is not what your husband does in bed because you know he still respects you. Degrading someone specifically involves removing their feelings of worth.

And, yes, I do feel I have the right to tell both men and women that flirting in a dirty way but then not following up is wrong. You are essentially lying. And telling people not to lie is one many things I think I have the right to tell someone else to do.

And, if the Thicke didn’t want people to interpret his song the way they did, he shouldn’t have, first off, used a phrase that is commonly used by people talking about rape vs. non-rape, and, second off, should have not specifically made an R-rated version of his video with women who are clearly not actually into the sexuality.

If you want to convince me that the woman in the song wants to be dirty, don’t put up a video of women who don’t even seem to want to be naked. And definitely don’t then say you were intentionally degrading them, even as a joke.

People don’t analyze anything anyone says in a vacuum.
