Meanwhile in Alberta - is a once-in-a-lifetime electoral shift in the offing?

45 Tories 20 Wildrose 2 NDP 1 Lib - still all leading none elected, but looks like the Tories have pulled it out

CTV has the PCs at 44 seats.

CTV projection: Wildrose 34-45 seats; PCs 31-47 seats.

But a large number are within 100 votes.

It’s still very early. I won’t be sad to see Link Byfield defeated (he just fell behind the PC candidate).

I can’t help but notice both of my former Calgary ridings are leaning green.

True, but look closely–we’re seeing Tories leading, but only with a small number of polls reporting. There’s a lot of counting yet to be done (but you know that).

Currently:

PC 49
WRP 21
NDP 2
Lib 1

True enough, Spoons. It ain’t over till it’s over.

The Globe and Mail has called Calgary Northern Hills for the PC candidate.

St. Albert and Castle Downs (both in Edmonton) also called for the PCs.

More seats elected according to the G&M – Strathcona called for the NDP with a lead of 700 votes, and Athabasca-Sturgeon-Redwater, Edmonton-Whitemud and Drayton Valley-Devon for the PCs.

Counting: 6 elected PCs, 1 elected NDP – the rest, still unsure.

Revised CTV projection has the PCs winning, though whether they get a majority is up in the air right now.

Edmonton-Decore and Edmonton-McClung called for the PCs. Edit 2: Edmonton-Mill Creek and Calgary-Foothills too.

Edit: Airdrie called for the Wildrose.

PC: 10
NDP: 1
WR: 1

CTV projection: majority for the PCs.

Interesting question - how will the Wildrose Party work with a majority PC government?

More and more seats rolling in for the PCs. Calgary-Hays, Spruce Grove, Camrose and Fort Sask too; 14 so far. I can’t believe it took an hour for anyone to call this election; that’s a lot closer than anyone expected.

Jim’s been calling a PC majority since the election was called; I honestly thought it would be a PC minority. I guess he knows his province.

So far:

PC: 21
WR: 3
NDP: 2
CBC has called a majority PC government.

Meadowlark (in Edmonton) is really, really close right now… 3 vote spread with 27 polls reporting.

The NDP are also doing really well in Lethbridge. Spoons, what’s the story there? I didn’t expect that.

Interesting–in my riding (Lethbridge West), PCs are leading, but the NDP is in second place. The Wildrose are in third. Just across the river, in Lethbridge East, PCs are also leading, followed by Wildrose.

But in Cardston-Taber-Warner (a riding that basically wraps around the City of Lethbridge), Wildrose is leading.

I guess you can’t say that southern Alberta has one point of view (the NDP in second place?).

Hmm. Not sure I can say the above, as CTV just showed a map of the province. With the exception of a little drop of Tory blue in Lethbridge, Wildrose has the southern part of the province.

The colour is green, but the margins are close.

The two squares showing green in Calgary might fade away, in one the lead is 70 votes and in the other the lead is 2 votes. The liberals might win more Calgary ridings than Wild Rose since their incumbents in the city center look like they’ll be elected and they are leading in a NE riding.
