Medical Jargon: Thick speech b/c of sore throat

Hello Experts of medical lingo,

I am a translator for English/German, but medical jargon is not my area of expertise. I am looking for a word that describes the “thick” way of talking when one has a sore throat or swollen soft palate. “frog in the throat” or “hoarse” are not quite what I need, more the way of speaking when one has a hot potato in one’s mouth.

The German word would be “klossig”, apparently a common word in medical jargon. Literally it means “dumpling-ish”.

Any suggestions?

frog in the throat = laringobatracism

no it isn’t, just kidding.

You Quack!

To clarify: what I am looking for is most probably not a Latin word. It is just a word that a doctor would use for this symptom, because it is not the same as being hoarse.

In the meantime I have found “hot potato voice” or “muffled speech”, which sounds a lot like what I am looking for. Can anyone confirm that this is used?

I call it a husky voice or husky-sounding.
