Medical Question... A little scary....

Okay I hope this isn’t a little TMI, but the other day, I noticed a very sharp pain in my groin area. It felt exactly the way it feels when your pubic hair gets tangled up down there and starts pulling on itself. So I ignored it and tried to resituate it. Then it happened again the next day. This began to worry me, so I took the old bead trimmer and did a little maintenance down there.

Well, I noticed that my pain wasn’t coming from my hair at all. There is this little lump that is oval in shap that is about the size of a grain of rice that hurts with very very very sharp pain when I touch it. It lies on the fold between my scrotum and my groin. Is this possibly an ingrown hair or somesuch, or is there a lymph node there that could be infected? Or am I screwed and do I have testicular cancer. Maybe I should wait a little while before and see if it goes away? It just appeared a few days ago and it doesn’t hurt unless I touch it.

Maybe some dope MDs could help me out. Its right in the area where that ligament is, except it is right in the corner between the scrotum and thigh… Or do I just have a case of pejn in de ballzack?

thanks for the help

Unlikely to be epididimitis (pijn in de Balzac) by your description.

Further than that, I won’t hazard a guess.

Talk it to your own doc, who can actually examine you if needed.

QtM, MD

IANA Doctor, but it sounds like a description somebody once gave me of when they had an inguinal hernia. See your doc - if it’s a hernia, it’s not going away after a couple of asprin. And you definately want to rule out anything more serious.

Actually I will add that by your description it sounds nothing like a hernia. But see your doctor.

BTW, testicular cancer is generally not painful.

well, honestly, my dad is my doctor, so it has always been a little awkward in terms of thing concerning my genitalia. I mean, would you want your dad to be examining your genetalia? Sure he’s a doctor, but he’s still my Dad. I suppose I’ll go to the doc at my university, though.

I don’t think its a hernia at all, because it is free moving, i.e. it is only attached to the skin. And I don’t do much straining, including BMs.

It makes me wish I were a doctor in a way, because any kind of complex equipment that I own (computer, cars) I like to be able to diagnose and solve my own problems.

OF course there is the whole medical school and 10 plus years experience that are required so it kind of makes me think its not worth it.

Oh, also…

thanks for the reassurance. I really had my doubts that it was testicular cancer, but my dad’s brother had to have a testicle removed because of that though…

Even if I were to have a testicle removed would that have an effect on fertility? I don’t think so, imagining the way the body is set up with many redundant systems, especially something as crucial to passing on your genes.

I hate to state the obvious, but it’s ridiculous to expect you can get any sort of diagnosis from online posters, regardless of their credentials or experience. You need to be examined by a doctor.

It is also ludicrous to be using your father as your doctor. Your very embarrassment prevents you from getting help: that’s counter-productive. You need a doctor who can deliver a fair, independent diagnosis.

I was going to say that it really sounds like a pimple or other such skin infection. If you feel up to it, you could soak it with a very hot washcloth for 10-15 minutes several times a day and see if that doesn’t clear up.

But, if you’re worried, definitely go see a doctor.
