Medical Term for Reaction to 'Cuteness'.

A little while ago, I forget exactly where or when, I heard something interesting. Humans aren’t the only animals that like cute, cuddly baby animals. Apparently to some extent some?/all? animals have this. I guess it comes down to the need to love and protect baby critters as opposed to, say, eat them. And there is a medical term that relates to this phenomenon. Only I don’t recall what they called it. Does anyone know what medical term I am talking about? And for extra points, how exactly is it defined?

Not to spoil your theory, but I’m gonna need a cite for this…

“Most” animals, as far as I can tell, view baby animals (especially, but not exclusively, one’s of a different species) as food. Nothing more, nothing less.

Well, maybe more - they’re slow food. Nice, tasty and you don’t have to knacker yourself to catch 'em. Beats eating the adults any day.

As for the effect of “cuteness” on humans, I’m not sure it get’s much more technical than “tenderness”.

YMMV, obviously.

Are you thinking of neoteny?
