Ok how many people here participate in medieval reenactment? I am a member of Dagorhir(a group that does fighting like the SCA but pads weapons instead of people)
and was just wondering from reading posts who else was involved in related activities?
I used to be with the Corsairs but now play mostly SCA, when I play.
I played with this group called Amptgard for a while, where they used padded weapons, but it really wasn’t my style. Politics bad. Non Fatal (and even illegal) headshots bad.
I currently play in the SCA (I live in An Tir) and go to ren faires at times. I don’t fight, but I brew, which seems to make me just as popular.
Check out the “no shit, there I was” thread. There are some SCAers over there, and a good story to boot.
I don’t do reenactment myself–I’m a LARPer in the IFGS. We’ve got some cross-membership with Amptgard here in the Dallas area, but we tend to favor roleplaying over all-out battles. It’s a lot goofier and more casual than the SCA most of the time, which I like. I also brew mead, which seems to make the SCAers I know forgive my frivolous attitude for some reason…
I went to one SCA thang in a hotel somewhere around Frederickburg several years ago. I lost my boxers. Found 'em the next morning, but the adventure in getting them back was interesting.
I was a part of the Adrian Empire, which had encampments at most of the faires here in L.A. The unofficial motto was “real men fight with real steel,” and that is exactly what they did. They wore full armor, and fought with real swords, maces, etc. There were also a place for the arts, for the more peaceful souls that didn’t want to fight. But, this was a warrior group. Besides, the politics became far too much for me to handle–hey, I just wanted to play and camp out at the faires.
My life changed, so I no longer have the time for it. I’ll go to a faire now and again, but faires are just not the same now that I’m no longer single.
