Meenie7's invisible friend

Well, if Kevin Bacon has taught us anything, at most six verifications should be necessary.

I think the incredible level of dickishness that it would take to internet-detective who I really am and where I live to get the men with the butterfly nets after me is more than anyone would realistically have.

But I wasn’t yelling at meenie, was I. In the coworker analogy, my OP was not a rant at the person making the claims, it was an expression of irritation at the coworekers who are humoring him.

Plus, when I wrote the OP, I though meenie was trolling. Now I think she probably has some kind of neurological issue and that she’s trying to put a happy face on “Marcus” out of the fear that she might get committed (which there’s little chance of since she doesn’t appear to pose any danger to herself or to others).

What are you, new to the Internet? Hell, we have a current administrator who did exactly that and posted the information for the world to see.

ETA: The information was someone else’s, not yours, obviously. Just to be clear on that point.

On the upside, most of us internet dickishness fountains are also pretty darned lazy about our dickishness, so you’re probably pretty much okay. Probably.

That’s true. Plus, most of us don’t really care that much.

I would say that more than that area has been exempt at one time or another.

Yes, parts of the board are very fact-oriented, but care to explain how an area that asks for opinions of “less-than-cosmic topics” is a huge tool in the war on ignorance? Maybe all the non-factual parts need to go away.

It’s just a marketing slogan. I don’t think the board is having the effect on the world that some might believe it is.

All that being said, for me it is still the way some are questioning it more than the questioning. It’s one thing to say there are no such thing as ghost, or I don’t believe you or “cite”, it’s another to say "HE IS COMPLETELY FULL OF SHIT ".

And yes, I know it’s the pit. It’s also that the outrage is from somebody who said Catholics shouldn’t get upset about cracker hijinks because no real harm was done (sorry, can’t remember how to link to the thread), but is always getting his panties in a wad over stuff like this. So where is the great harm being caused to the world by this, Dio? And why not keep it in the original thread? Because it’s so much more fun to show your righteous indignation in the pit, I guess.

She fought your ignorance about the fact that In [Her] Humble Opinion she’s haunted. How could she have better complied with the expectations of the message board and forum she was in?

It isn’t meant to. But, it should have that effect on those who visit here. Or, at least try to.

How did she fight ignorance?

meenie, you really need to see the neurologist again and mention Marcus. Look, I’m Catholic and believe in all sorts of crazy shit, but this really pings my brain tumor radar. (I knew I had it installed for a reason!)

I highly doubt anyone would or could forcibly have you committed, but for your benefit I will start a related GQ thread.

Are you suggesting we should value people’s presence on the boards based on how effectively they fight ignorance? How would that even work?

No…I’m just asking begbert how she fought ignorance, as he claims she did.

If there was anyone in the viewing audience that was ignorant of the fact she thought she was haunted, well, ignorace fought!

This all started in IMHO, folks. Seems to me that’s were you go if you want to learn about and discuss people’s opinions. Isn’t it?

How do Mafia Games, Sequential Thread Titles, and requests for recipes for bananas fight ignorance? Let’s not overestimate the real importance of this message board in the educational process.

Though I’ll posit that she fought ignorance by showing that somebody can be intelligent, write well, and even extremely skeptical in some ways but believe solipsistic evidence over logic in others, which is an interesting trait shared by many other Dopers and other humans and thus provides a lesson in not profiling people too much by their beliefs (aka it’s quite possible for a person to be X, Y, and Z even while Y.Z is something they waver on).

Why are JREF and profit always inextricably linked? Like this is some litmus test of paranormality? The root of their evil, I suspect is money… Randi has done made and spent several million. He’s the con that flipped the table…he’s a cheat in the same sense that any of his opponents are…a shyster that decided to dupe with a corruption unlike any other…intellectual dishonesty.

Yeah, before I thought you meant that because she wasn’t fighting ignorance that she wasn’t valued on the boards. Perhaps a little self-projection, or maybe even astral projection!

Anyhoo, here’s the thread I said I’d write about ghosts, brain scans, and asylums: http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?p=10036354#post10036354

Yeah, what would Cecil Adams say if he knew imaginary people were being defended on his message board?

  1. Do something
  2. . . .
  3. Profit!

is an internet meme. Of course, I didn’t omit the “here a miracle occurs” type steps, so I was actually only riffing on the meme, but whichever.
Also, no offense, you sound kinda like a nut.

Specifically, a South Park reference. In one ep, the boys meet some underwear gnomes. They explain that their goal in life is:

Step 1, steal underwear

Step 2,

Step 3, Profit!
