Meenie7's invisible friend

I believe Vinyl Turnip’s story, if only because it’ll piss Diogenes and Der Trihs.

I swear to ghod this claim is more coherent than the last twenty submitted for the Million Dollar Challenge!

She (Meenie7) appears to be enjoying the attention in that thread. So my vote is that she’s simply lying. In fact, I sincerely believe that the vast majority of “delusional” people are simply lying.

Only a very small percentage of the population is delusional in the medical sense. But there is no shortage of liars. Have met hundreds of them.

But you can remember smells right, or does that fall under the ‘no interaction with an object’ clause, since odor is technically teeny-tiny parts of objects?

Okay, so I did the experiment. Here, for what it’s worth (nothing, I realize, with this hostile crowd, but I didn’t want to be seen as backing down from it) is what happened.

Since this was basically just a little trial for my own benefit, performed alone, I only did two tosses of the dice. Like I mentioned before, I used D&D dice, excluding the percentile die and the 4-sided die that looks like a pyramid. So, I had: 4 4-sided dice, an 8 sided die, a 12-sided die, a 10-sided die and a 20-sided die.

The first time I threw them, I asked Marcus and he said: 6, 6, 2, 4, 5, 7, 1, 6.

When I looked at the dice myself, I saw that he was right, and I was pretty excited but I had to try it again, since I could have been incredibly lucky and guessed right the first time, but the odds of guessing exactly right again were very, very slim.

So, I threw them again, and he said: 10, 6, 11, 1, 1, 2, 4, 2.

When I looked at these, he was right except for the 11, which was actually a 6 and the 10, which was actually a 14. I was really confused by this. I asked him why he didn’t read them right, and he didn’t have any good answers for me.

Now I’m sort of scared, and upset. So, if that’s what the super-skeptics in this thread wanted, to make me doubt a friend who I really like, to make me feel upset, then great, you’ve got it. I shouldn’t have done the trial at all. Whether Marcus is real or not, I really like him and I don’t know what to do.

And see, cmyk, not one smilie.

eta: sorry for the brief, clipped sort of report, I’m getting ready for work at the moment but I wanted to tell people the result.

I don’t understand… what numbers were on the faces of the 4-sided dice?

4-sided D&D dice typically look like this:

The number on the bottom is used.

Oh yeah, I’m convinced.

I think his question refers to the fact that the first set of numbers only had 3 numbers in the series that were 4 or smaller.

It’s entirely possible that Meenie7 simply made a typo.

I, for one, am sorry you feel that way. Thank you for doing the experiment and letting us know.

I don’t think you’re a liar.

Meenie, my suggestion is to just let it go (on the boards anyway). You don’t have to ‘prove’ anything to anyone here. Unless you want to continue experiments for your own benefit, I would just let it go.

Now I’m back to thinking she’s making shit up.

Oh yeah. I just assumed she meant 4 6-sided and not 4 4-sided. (I’m a little confused by what she meant by excluding percintile dice since she did use a d10. 2 d10 is used for percentile rolls AFAIR.)

Who the hell was trying to do that? We don’t believe your invisible friend actually exists, remember? If you really feel upset (not that I believe you really tried to perform an honest test), then go to a neurologist already.

I think she did. In her post where she explains it, she said this:

First she says she excluded the 4-sided dice, and then she says she used 4 of them. I’m guessing she meant 4 6-sided dice.

Can’t tell you what she meant by the percentile dice, as I my knowledge of D&D is limited to “I know they use all those multi-sided dice, but I have no idea why.”

Dude, if she isn’t making this up, then she is someone who really believes this ghost has been her best friend for the last 8 years. She is more afraid of losing the companionship than she is of the possibility that there is something wrong with her, don’t you get it?

Damnit. Yeah, I did mean 4 6 sided dice. Like, regular-style cube-shaped dice. Sorry about that.

We did not wish you to be scared and upset. I believe I speak for most when I say that what we really want is for you to get the help you need, and your fear and upset are nearly inevitable steps on your path to wellness. You have lived for many years in the first stage of mourning, denial, and now you are stepping into the second, anger. A doctor with whom you are honest about Marcus can help ease your pain as you continue the process, and will help you understand what triggered the illusion of Marcus in the first place.

A lot of people here have lived through painful experiences and they can also help you. Please remember, though, that what you experienced with Marcus does not reflect badly on you. Except for a few jerks, we sympathize with you and are relieved you are nearing the point where you get help.

What did he say? You said, “he didn’t have any good answers for me.” What were his responses?

Exactly. Thank you for understanding.

As for the dice, I excluded the pyramid-shaped 4 sided die, and the 10 sided die that has 10, 20, 30, etc. on it, which I believe is called the percentile die. (I bought these dice so I could start playing D&D. I don’t know everything about it yet either.)

He said. “I don’t know. I don’t know.” And I asked him if he just didn’t feel like cooperating or something and he said, “No, I’m trying. I am. I did the best I could.” And I was pretty upset, and tired, so we went to bed and then he wouldn’t talk about it anymore.
