Meet Bob

Bob and I had a fantastic time in DC today. We pulled into town at around 10:30, found a parking garage a block from the mall with a really nice attendant who loved Bob. Then we hit the mall, fershure. It was a gorgeous day. About 60 degrees, light breeze, not a cloud in the sky.

I was only cursorily familiar with DC’s layout, so I wasn’t sure what I was close to. Turns out I was right near the Capitol building which is one far end of the Mall. I started walking toward the Washington Monument but it didn’t seem to be getting any closer. It was a fine walk, though. Tons of people, families, joggers, soccer games, dogs, dogs, dogs. When I got near the Monument, I took a rest and looked up where the Viet Nam memorial was - turns out it was way on the other side of the Washington Monument near the Lincoln Memorial. So Bob and I girded up our loins and hiked on down see Abe.

If I had known the White House was a quick right, I might have walked down there too, but we were both pretty tired by the time we got to the end of the mall. We hiked it on back to the garage and then just drove around the city for a little while. Their was a pro-Ukrainian demonstration going on at the White House and I would have liked to join in but I had already given up my parking spot and I was exhausted.

We’ve made our way to Fredricksburg, VA. I’ve had a burrito. I’m watching Ant-Man on the TeeVee and Bob is zonked out on my bed. Great day.

Awesome pictures! I especially like the impressive majesty of Bob’s nose and Washington’s monument.

Bob looks pretty happy with this trip!

Congressdog Bob Batty (D.)

Sorry about Mort. Certainly put a downer on the beginning of this next adventure.

Looking forward to seeing more great pictures of Bob on his travels. I’ll be taking notes.

Great pictures!

It was too windy to go play outside in Florida yesterday. Torrential rains the day before. 40 degrees today. Did I drive to Florida or Chicago?

The Florida room looks more like Florida; though they do pop up elsewhere. This one is IMO improved by the addition of a large dog; though he does look rather like he’s wondering where he is.

Is that in a hotel/motel, or are you staying with somebody you know?

What does Bob think about swimming pools?

It’s my folk’s house in The Villages. Bob has been a river up to his chest; he’s been in the pool with his paws in the first step. He also walked around the narrow edge next to the screen and almost fell in twice. I’d bet he can swim like Mark Spitz if I encouraged him to, but he’s basically a wader at this point.

For some reason, I keep missing this thread, and being a Bear of Very Little Brain, I forget to check. I’m so sorry about Mort but can’t help feeling that he timed his exit as he lived his life–well and with dignity.

I am loving the photos of Bob and of your journey together. Thanks so much for sharing!

Have you ever read Travels with Charley?

I’ve pulled the trigger.

When I sold the house I knew I was going to end up getting a new car. My Dart ran ok, but it had issues - mismatched tires, missing piece of a door handle, leak in the washer fluid system - and I so wanted to get a Challenger. I was on track to trade my Mustang in on one a decade ago until I got fired. Now I’m in a position where I can get what I’ve always wanted to get. I was looking at used V6’s and used V8’s but when it came right down to it, I decided I wanted to buy new - I wanted the benefit of the warranties.

I test drove a couple of GT’s (V6) and then I test drove an R/T (V8 Hemi). What’s the saying? You’ll never get them back on the farm once they’ve been to gay Paree.

I bought a Hemi. I love it. Bob loves it too. He fits nicely in the back seat. I’m so happy. I spent more than I intended, but I’m still in great shape. I will most likely settle down sooner rather than later. But I’ve got to hit the road with this thing. Next stop … Niagara Falls (family is there).

Nice work! PM me if you’re going through the Hudson Valley so I can pat Bob.

It’s beautiful! What color is the interior?

Black interior (cloth, dog fur collector type) to accent the black spoilers and gas cap.

It’s very nice!

It is so choice. If you have the means, I highly recommend picking one up.

Oh man. Must resist.

So, I’m still in Florida not according to plan. I’m on my second week here and I think my welcome is wearing thin. Not really, but I want to get moving and I’m sure my parents would like a little of their lives back as well. The trouble is the dealer where I bought the car screwed up the title paperwork something fierce. Ok, so I didn’t have a physical copy of my title for the Dart I traded in, but the day I bought the Challenger, they told me everything was all set, titles are transferred, registration is paid for, off you go. I thought it was weird that they just took my plates off the Dart and slapped them on the Challenger and sent me on my way.

The next day as I’m pouring through the paper work, I find no title, no registration, no piece of paper, except for the sales contract, proving the Challenger is mine. Also, they didn’t put a front plate bracket on (required in Maine but not in Florida). I went back to straighten out the paperwork and get a bracket put on. So I’m sitting there talking to the finance guy and he’s telling me a bunch of shit about how everything is all set. Well, where is my registration, where is my title? That’s when it got really weird. They come back at me and say that they did a title search on the Dart and came up with the name of someone who I’ve never met and do not know. What the fuck? They have no idea what the issue is or how to solve it. So I’m thinking - these bastards are fucking me - they’re going to show up, repossess my new car, keep my old car and the fat check I wrote for them.

I call the title people in Maine and I’m told that the title is indeed my name, as it has been since I bought it and have been registering it year after year. So … I’m in Florida waiting for a duplicate copy of my title to show up from Maine before I then have to go back to the dealer and see if they’ve figured out their assholes from some holes in the ground yet.

I’m relaxing just fine down here, but I want to get going.

Once everything is settled, I will announce the name of the dealer so anyone reading this can avoid those incompetent jerks. Worst car buying experience of my life.

I hate shit like that. I hope you get it figured out soon. It does sound like they’re playing you. I wonder if Maine would be willing to fax something to the dealer? Not the title, but the results of a title search, so they’d stop playing with you?
