There’s a claim on Wikipedia and various other sites that, as an old woman, Alice Hargreaves (nee Liddell), the inspiration for the character from Alice in Wonderland, met Peter Llewelyn-Davies, the inspiration for Peter Pan, on a trip to New York. It doesn’t seem to be cited anywhere, so is possibly a Wikipedia confabulation.
Does anyone know of any decent sources for this story?
Alice met Peter Davies, not in New York, but at the Bumpus Bookshop in London on June 26, 1932, as documented in Colin Gordon’s book, “Beyond the Looking Glass” (Hodder and Stoughon, 1982), page 243. The Bumpus event was Britain’s answer to America’s 1932 centenary celebrations. Alice opened the centenary at the Bookshop on that date with Peter by her side.
