Meeting of the PC Police- Crackers like Sailor not invited,

next time I get a chance, I’ll ask my Dad if he used g**k during WW2 or didn’t pick that up until the Korea war?

Interesting theory. Anyone out there that speaks Korean have an opinion on this? If it’s from WW2, then probably stems from the Cantonese diaspora in SE Asia. Cantonese for USA is “mei gwok” and that could be the link.

Nekochan, yes actually I’ve been reading the other thread and spending an awful lot of time trying to get answers. I recieved some very enlightening thoughts from a webmaster for an Asian-American web site who very kindly, patiently and in great detail explained this issue in many different ways. This webmaster also explained why some of my ingrained assumptions were incorrect. And when I still didn’t get it the first time around, instead of repeating the exact same reason, tried a different approach. So, I was WRONG about the use of the word “oriental” in the US (please see the other thread). Next issue is the international one.

I stand by my pit statements.
