Mega Man inspired rock opera? Oh yes!

I know, I know, it’s horribly nerdy but I love it! They’ve got 3 free songs for download, so check it out and tell me what you think.

The Protomen

I know it doesn’t exactly follow Capcom’s cannon. It seems to be somewhat influenced by that awful DiC American cartoon from way back. Even so, I enjoy it. I’ve always found it fascinating how *Mega Man[/] has this cutesy, innocent, children’s adventure veneer, when it’s really got kind of a dark, tragic, end-of-innocence theme. Especially when you consider the fact that as far as Capcom’s concerned, the Mega Man X series, as well as Mega Man Zero, ARE the future of the “classic” games, not a possible future (as many fans contend).

PS. I am also aware that the early Mega Man games plotline is a colossal rip-off of the original Kikaider manga, which came out back in the 1970’s or something like that.

In retrospect, I think this thread is doomed to die a quick death. Let’s see if it gets even one post before it gets bumped off the first three pages! :stuck_out_tongue:

Here’s your post.

Got any proof of this?

There was a Mega Man cartoon? I remember Mega Man being a character on “Captain N: The Game Master” but I don’t remember a Mega Man cartoon.

I listened to just a little of the first two songs they have on the website. The beginnings of both remind me a lot of The The. Then I guess at some point the first one turns into metal, which I’m not a fan of, but it’s a very surf-rockish kind of metal which is cool. Maybe what the Pixies would have sounded like if they were metal.

You really, really need to listen to the third song, “The Will of One,” it’s got a great rock sound that is reminiscent of some band, but I can’t place who. It’s got a dorky Depeche Mode sounding mid-section, but the first and last parts are awesome. I like the first two, but frankly, I’d rate them 3/5, TWoO 5/5.

Yes there was a cartoon, in the late 90’s, but it was always on at odd times, like the middle of the day, and it had very little to do with the story of the games.

Also, I love the catch-phrase for the album, “Hope Rides Alone!” Classic Man-vs-Establishment Cyber-Punk.

Cute. Got any proof of what?

Oh, and along the lines with parts of the songs I think are really cool; the chorus of Wily-bots at the end of “The Will of One;”

“We have control
We keep you safe
We are your hope”

Again, it has a great man-vs-establishment sound to it. Really awesome. Frankly though, that song really fits the story of the Mega Man Zero games better.

That… is… so…
AWESOME!!!

Mega Man is, like, my favorite video game ever. Too bad the costuming isn’t higher budget, tho’!

You may also want to check out the song ‘Cutsman’ by HORSE: The Band. It’s about one of the bosses (cutman) from the early games. They are pioneers of what is known as “nintendocore”, hardcore punk with old school 8 bit influences.HORSE: The Band

Also relevant are the

Minibosses

who do Nintendo music including Mega Man 2, on rock instruments.

But they’re different. I LOVE the Minibosses, but they do covers. This is an entirely original rock-opera based on the first Mega Man game. Pretty big difference.

I wasn’t looking to start a generic videogame music thread, but if you like rock covers of game music, though; check out the The Black Mages, they’re a band of current and former SquareEnix music dept. employees, who do hard-rock/metal covers of various Final Fantasy pieces as arranged by Nobuo Uematsu, the man who composed it all. They’re absolutely awesome.

I saw a link to this a few days ago, but at that time, all I could find on the site was a bunch of “Under Construction” and “Coming Soon”. The only way I knew it had anything to do with Mega Man was the disclaimer at the bottom that it didn’t have anything to do with Mega Man, and I couldn’t tell that they were a band at all. Could anyone give a few hints as to where exactly the content is?

try the link I gave above. The sites up with lots of content. It will take you to a page with a skyline of a city across the top, with words written on the various buildings. Click on Listen to be taken to a page with the titles of three songs, click on them to download the songs.

Unless you’re having problems on your end, that should work. I found the site about 4 days ago. It was working for me then, it’s working now. Use the hyperlink I gave at the top of the site to make sure you’re going to the same site we are
