So when did NBC go to the dogs such that they would consider hiring someone like her? [I haven’t watched network news since I went online a couple decades ago.]
I suspect you may be thinking about Stewart’s critique of Gretchen Carlson, who is a former valedictorian, Stanford grad, classical violinist and Miss America contestant, but whose career at Fox has chiefly involved playing the dumb blonde.
I am? I thought the primary accuser left Fox at that time. Or is Kelly a secondary accuser?
The NYT article I linked to included a link to this piece from The Daily Show in which Megyn Kelly, just back from three months of maternity leave, is shown ripping into a radio show critic who made fun of her for going on maternity leave, calling it a “racket”. Jon Stewart contrasts this with earlier clips of her, in which she criticizes mandated benefits, suggesting that she might have acquired a new appreciation for such things.
Note that pointing out hypocrisy on Fox News was just about Jon Stewart’s favorite thing in the world.
It’s also possible that I conflated several bits. My point remains though that this sudden rush of emotion that Kelly is such a different creature now that she stood up to being insulted by Trump is like the typical liberal fascination with any Republican who breaks from 100% orthodoxy to just 98% orthodoxy and is suddenly hailed as “Someone I could vote for!” by left-wingers desperate for any sign of sanity from the right. She’s spent many a year cultivating the current right-wing mindset.
Who the fuck is saying that Megyn Kelly is such a different creature now? Or is that implied by the fact that she was hired by NBC? Does being hired by any network other than Fox News imply that one is a liberal?

Who the fuck is saying that Megyn Kelly is such a different creature now?
If you’re not, you’re not so you can probably settle down now. No need to take it so personally.
Can you tell me who you’re referring to?
Frankly, you appear to have created a straw man.

I was speaking in generalities from experiences beyond just this thread where I knew a number of people suddenly worked up that Kelly was having her tiff with Trump.
If you want to call it a straw man, that’s cool. I’m not half as invested in it as you seem to be so you can win this one
From Wikipedia, “A straw man is a common form of argument and is an informal fallacy based on giving the impression of refuting an opponent’s argument, while actually refuting an argument that was not advanced by that opponent.”
That sounds exactly what you’ve done.

There are secondarys and tertiaries too. She talked about it on Terry Gross. She didn’t take any action at the time.

No clue. Leave liberals out of it would ya. The whole “token conservative with a human face” thing is a media creation and not a liberal one.
Who the hell is going to watch her- she won’t bring the Fox News audience, NBC is not MSNBC, but there’s obviously some overlap. And even still, that crowd isn’t going to start trusting NBC just because she’s on it. It’s a betrayal.
The ever dwindling NBC audience isn’t going to like her from her many, many, many years on Fox.
I don’t see an audience.

Sorry for stepping on your line, dude!
You gotta be quick around here!

I am? I thought the primary accuser left Fox at that time. Or is Kelly a secondary accuser?
Gretchen Carlson was the primary accuser. Megyn Kelly’s own story involving a sexual harassment incident by Roger Ailes reportedly happened more than a decade ago, and was only brought to light during an internal general investigation regarding Ailes and sexual harassment following Carlson suing Ailes.

No one in this thread has done what you said. Just because someone points out the faults in your arguments in a colorful way doesn’t make it “personal,” and that’s a crappy way to deflect from what they actually said.
This thread just has people saying they had to begrudgingly give her some respect for not toeing the Fox News line. Even if she did it for her own advancement, that’s not guaranteed. It could have just resulted in her being fired from Fox.
Not a single person has said she’s suddenly a liberal. We’re just pointing out what actually happened. Including from that clip you used. Hell, that was probably the point where she stopped toeing the line.
This reminds me of a webcomic I read. In it, there is a very activist liberal who gets angry when a former fundamentalist sees the light on LGBT issues. How dare anyone treat Joyce well, when Roz has been on the right side the whole time!
Thing is, even in a very liberal comment community, people started hating Roz from then on. They realized she’s the asshole liberal stereotype, as opposed to the other liberals in the comic who were happy with Joyce’s change.
It’s the prodigal son story. Of course we’re happy when someone changes even 1%. If not, what’s going to encourage them to change the other 99%?

It’s not hypocritical to take advantage of mandatory benefits your company offers, even if you oppose them in principle. If you’d like to debate that, we can open up a GD or IMHO thread. Probably not appropriate to do it here, though.
I wasn’t starting a debate, but instead providing an actual instance of what Jon Stewart had to say about Megyn Kelly. (For the record, he admits that he liked her better than others at Fox News.)

People should not expect or give credit for not toeing a party line on a “news” network. Look at what you’re saying.
It’s not some parable or story. It’s just someone who has been a real jerk, who needs another high paying job and wants to try to get out of the fox web that she was kowtowing and beholden to. She’s like a porno actress who wants to go legit, except that I have no sympathy for her. I save it for people who have been lied about on fox.
I suspect that, for NBC, this poaching job is less about boosting their own numbers with Kelly on their air, and more about dinging Fox News’.
The Peacock could pay her $25 million/year to host a 3am talk show in Japanese, and it would still be a win if it hurt Fox’s bottom line and ratings over the next few years.
