Go back and read my last post. Consider the distinction I make between the argument on the merits and the level of maturity being displayed. I don’t mind invective, in fact it’s often entertaiing, but for Og’s sake, can’t it at least be creative, rather than the kind of thing a five-year-old thinks is the height of wit? I believe Aldebaran was overreacting in his accusations against Mehitabel, but her responses in this thread, including her latest snarky reference to “The fat lady of mysterious nationality”, would appear to make a case for his point, wouldn’t it?

Then too, to deliberately twist a username into a derogatory form is, as has already been pointed out, jerkish behavior and at the very least frowned upon by The Powers That Be. I recall previous Dopers being warned by the mods not to do it. At the very least, it makes the name-twister look like a petulant baby.

I want to make sure I have this straight. Aldebaran accuses **Mehitabel ** of stalking him, and insinuates that she wants to be one of his wives, an accusation that is is effectively refuted. Do you not find this jerkish?

Mehitabel says that she will refrain from questioning his country of origin if he will refrain from categorizing others by their country of origin. He does not respond. Do you not find this jerkish?

Another Doper refers to Aldeberan as Debbie, and she picks up on this. This is her only offense as far as I can tell. Why do you find her behavior worthy of rebuke yet Aldeberan gets a pass? This is the Pit. He had his ass handed to him. He chews up the scenery and declares “I cannot post here anymore” and then returns three days later. And you feel that Mehitabel is the one who needs scolding? Why strain at the gnat? The camel is the one shitting all over the furniture.

You should look back at previous threads where Mehitabel has harrassed Aldebaran mercilessly about his country of origin. I don’t know what else to call it but stalking. I have never understood why she does it - obviously Aldebaran doesn’t know why, and he made a very obvious joke about her motivation [not an accusation, IMO].

I also don’t understand why the moderators sit back and do nothing. Look back over this one thread, at the number of insults levelled at Aldebaran. [I previously listed 7 in just one post] Look at the fact that she has not only harrassed another member of the group, but she has also gone against a previous pit ruling about changing a member’s user name. Why don’t the moderators even try to enforce this previous ruling in this similar case?

While Mehitabel seemed to indicate earlier in the thread that she would change her attitude towards Aldebaran, her recent posts have shown that she has no intention of changing, as long as she continues to be given a free pass by the moderators.

It’s really very simple. You’re not being singled out, in spirit or in logic, so pouting won’t help. We wouldn’t allow anyone to jump into random threads using “screen names” that are actually insults harkening back to long-standing grudges, e.g. “Cat De-clawer”, “Fat Basher” “Circumcision Butcher”, “PC PrimaDonna”, etc. It isn’t acceptable to drag insulting nicknames for other posters all over the boards. It’s distinctly rude, not to mention annoying, to other posters who actually don’t want to watch you re-ignite old battles over and over and over again.

Since when would one single thread be considered as “all over the boards”?

The above quote wasn’t from me, it was from a pit moderator in a similar case of name-calling. And the principle is the same, whether it’s on one thread or many. Also, the point about ‘re-igniting old battles over and over again’ seems appropriate

gum, the intention is to call a man with a woman’s name = to make it clear to the audience that you talk about a man as if he is some sort of eunuch, or whatever other denigrating mental picture you can provoke by this.

Of course I can ask my wives to come and post their opinion on what seems to have all potential to become Mehitabel’s new method for harassing me.
Yet first of all they do not even know this cyberspot exists. Next they would ask me if I am crazy when I say they should become an active member. Third, their English is even more confusing then mine since almost non-existent in writing, and last but not least: They would find reason in this to finally convince The Family to put me away in the madhouse for good, if they knew I do have a membername here and do write posts here.
So there is a bit of a problem from my side to make it clear to the SDMB population that I did not make a mistake to subscribe here under “Aldebaran” instead of choosing the female bastard version “Debbie”.

Yet as there is an advantage in everything there is also one to detect in this strange development: It is clear that I don’t need to send Mehitabel flowers. Yet.

You’ll need to email a mod/admin directly to get this thing closed, Aldebaran, since they won’t know that’s your request unless they happen to raed the thread – and no one can read all the threads, often enough, to catch all such requests for closing.

If you’d rather not do it directly, for whatever reason, post that here and I’ll do it for you. I agree, this thing has run its course.
