Memorable advertising jingles for defunct products

Here’s the infamous jingle

Terentii-- this song has an interesting history; it’s was written about 1956 for a USAF recruiting drive, and became popular due to it’s release by the Mitch Miller Orchestra & Chorus. My father, who was in the Air Force at the time, remembered some effort by the “Brass” in Washington to replace the familiar “US Air Force Song” (“Off we go into the wild blue yonder…”) with “Air Force Blue” as the USAF’s “official” song. He remembered some polls or something being conducted among various Air Force personnel, but the results were “hands down” that they wanted to retain the old “Air Force Song” (“Wild Blue Yonder”). He said he did remember hearing “Air Force Blue” at times, and that over the years it DID became something of a “second theme” for the USAF. I think most old Airmen felt like my Dad, however – that nothing could every come close to the “US Air Force Song” (“Wild Blue Yonder”). In fact, my Dad went back far enough to remember when it was the “Army Air Corps Song”, then the “Army Air Force Song”! At any rate, if I recall correctly, “Air Force Blue” was used again during the 1960’s on Air Force recruiting commercials… that might be the time you picked up on it?

That’s right, late '60s or early '70s. I think my brother was in the AF at the time (1968–72).

They were still doing the original “High Flight” around that time, as I recall (the one with the F-104).

I always had my own interpretation of the first jingle (and yes, I was in fifth or sixth grade at the time).*

IIRC, the last line of the second was “The burgers are bigger at Burger King!”
*A friend of mine claimed to have Burger King shorts, “Home of the Whopper.”

I grew up in the 80 s& early 90 s and there were a ton of awesome cereals. Nerds cereal with the box looking just like the candy one side Cherry one side Orange& two separate openings! But the Jingle I recall is for Smurfberry Crunch which was very tasty- Smurfberry crunch is fun to eat! A fruity smurfy breakfast treat. Made by Smurfs so happily, it tastes like crunchy smurfberries! Its berry shaped& crispy too its berry red & smurfy blue. Sung to the tune of the Nutcracker, and the cereal sort of resembled captain crunch berries with blue berry pieces also. The other one I recall is for Too T Fruits chewy fruit leather stick type snacks, with 2 flavors one in the middle& one around it. Too too too too T fruits too too too T fruits too too too t fruits too too… In a rhythm while the fruit sticks danced in a line all over the house.

The Bucky Beaver Ipana ad from the 60 s can clearly be seen and heard in the movie Grease also during the Slumber Party Scene

I was born in 1975 and wasnt old enough in 76 to recall this, so it must have either been replayed in the 80 s or the Jingle was re used in an 80 s ad? Because I know this jingle well and heard it every day after school on a big mac commercial that aired when I was way older than one year. I think I was maybe around 8

I remember the soft whip yogurt ad as being Soft whip its yogurt fun for you! Soft whip is soft and creamy too. Soft whip is the one for you its red and blue and yellow too. Or to that extent, listing colors instead of the flavor it wouldve represented.

1966 -

If you don’t (I do!) like peanuts,
Don’t get new Kellogg’s Triple Snack.
Triple Snack is right for me,
And I am right for Triple Snack.

Oh, the dangers of a zombie thread being revived … when you discover you have ninja’d yourself. (See post 127)

ANOTHER UPDATE: One of the actual mid-70’s AMC (American Motors) jingles by the Ron Hicklin Singers has been posted on You Tube! It’s under “Ron Hicklin Singers: AMC (American Motors) ‘Thrifty’.” Check it out! Terrific jingle!

I can bring home the bacon
fry it up in a pan
and never let you forget you’re a man
'cause I’m a wo-ooman

TV commercial for Enjoli perfume. Late 70s or early 80s, I think. Sounds a bit sexist today, was thought rather progressive at the time. The catchy jingle will be stuck in my head forever. Enjoli still sells a product line, but this commercial is long gone.

That reminds me of a cartoon I once saw in response to that commercial. In it, a haggard looking woman stares at a TV set watching that commercial and comments, “And you’re on drugs!”

The song it was based on went back considerably farther:

“Ring Around The collar!”

and (Angelinos only):
“Aydee Do.”

Oops. Aydee Do is still in business. Shows how much I know.

I can’t imagine why no one has quoted these:
Pepsi Cola hits the spot,
twice as much and that’s a lt,
twice as much for a nickel too =
you know Pepsi’s the drink for you.||
I’m Conchita banana and I’ve come to say
bananas have to ripen in a certain way.
You can put them in a salad, you can put them in a pie.
Anyway you want to eat them it’s impossible to beat them.
But bananas are from the very, very tropical equator,
so never put bananas in the refrigerator.

Because both Pepsi and Chicquita Bananas are still going concerns and the title of the thread is Memorable Advertising Jingles For DEFUNCT Products?

They wouldn’t have provided Shirley Jones’ voice as the mom on The Partridge Family, either.

Also, Brylcreem is still around.
Whoa, how old is this thread?
