Memorable characters in TV ads

Most importantly, she was Yetta theplasticcook in Murder by Death, which I recently… virgin production?

E*Trade baby’s daddy.

Lucky from the Diet Coke commercials.

Yeah, I know…it was an awkward use. But I’d already said “original Hildy” so also saying “original production” would have sounded redundant. Although if she was the original Hildy then I guess original production is assumed. Never mind…

The mop from this Swiffer commerical: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ytn_IViHNnM

He should win the “Best Inanimate Actor in a Commerical” Emmy.

I’d never seen that before but it’s hilarious

Toppie Smellie. She was in a stuffing commercial in the '70s, and I will never forget her name as long as I live. Even as a kid, I wondered if that could possibly be her real name. Apparently it was.

Rodney Allen Rippy.

Hey, I just found a clip! 1:57

The Progressive.com girl is really cute. I hope we see more of her.

“Dirty mouth? Clean it up with Orbit!”

Cosmo from those 1960s 7-Up commercials, a foppish young Mayfair with an amazonian girlfriend. She pushes the broken-down car, he’s riding in it, but he’s the one who’s exhausted… Oh, ya had to be there.

The girl with the white headband from those Progressive Insurance commercials.

Mikey (and sibs) from Life cereal.

You can’t hear the word “gecko” without thinking “Geico.”

I remember the “pothead” girl from that one Dell ad. Apparently she became a very minor celebrity. Can’t Google her for some reason, though “dell girl” shows up on the urban dictionary?

And it amuses me in the current McD ads that they seem to make a point of showing the parents in the background when Ronald’s with the kids.

I like the ad where the Dad brings home a phone plan and the whole family comments on it. “You can call that lady at my soccer games you always stare at.” He rocks the red tie and sport-coat.

I had an addled moment of thinking that Madge was played by Eve Arden, but she wasn’t. Eve was however, hawking Playtex cross your heart bras at around the same time, when the models still had to have clothes on under the bras they were selling.

I was also fond of Mother Nature in the margarine ads “It’s not nice to fool Mother Nature”. I think that was an actress whose name I used to know as well.

VINCE OFFER.
Bar none best salesman.

…shamwow/slapchop/graty for those who are confused.

Madge was played by Jan Miner, who passed away in 2004.

Mother Nature was played by Dena Dietrich, who also played Dorothy’s sister Gloria on The Golden Girls.

How about the ranty young guy on the steps from the Shiek condom commercial you saw all over basic cable a few years ago? It was funny as Hell the way he went from screaming “CONDOMS, man! They’re just another PLOT to keep us down!” to squawling “These are good! I use 'em and LOVE 'EM! Thank you! Thank you! THANK YOU MR. SHIEK!!!” in a second and a half.

The Bandicoot from the console game. The guy wears the Bandicoot costume in a diner and the guy next to him looks at him nervously. Then Bandicoot screams “STOP STARING AT ME!”

That struck chords with the side of me that always wanted to be the crazy homeless person.

Actually, she advertised for Macs.
