Did you watch “The Dating Game” back in the day? What can you tell me about it? What was the schtick? Anything particularly funny or annoying you remember?
The first thing to come to mind is that I knew someone who had been on it – one of my college roommates, but it was before I knew her.
I
I remember Jim Lange and the couples “Blowing a Big Kiss” to me at the end of the show. Dorky Double-Entendre questions. The classic looks on some of the contestants face when their “Date” came around the barrier. A clasic Chuck Barris production. Usually followed closely by the Newlywed game.
Same for the answers, too.
“Bachelor number two, who would be your dream date?”
“Not really. I’m not gay.”
I remember Jim Lange’s incredible array of plaid pants
According to Wikipedia, a good number of celebrities appeared both as current celebrities (Sally Field, Butch Patric, etc) and pre-fame (Suzanne Somers, Tom Selleck - who was on twice and lost both times):

I recall seeing Andy Kaufman on The Dating Game as Bachelor Number 2. It could have been a good joke if handled well, but Jim Lange was pretty clueless as to who he was (even though Kaufman had made a national reputation for himself by this time), and the Bachelorette was so vapid that the prospect of going out with this guy who gave weird anwers in a foreign accent could not have possibly intrigued her.
I do remember when he wasn’t picked, Kaufman saying, “No no! I won! I answered all the questioons right!!” I cracked up!
I remember seeing Michael Jackson on it. He was just a kid then.
I remember that episode as well. I had already seen Kaufman on a network comedy showcase so I was familiar with the schtick. PeeWee Herman was on around the same time and got the same bemused response as Kaufman.
