I bought a Serta mattress with an attached (i.e. built-in) memory foam topper about a year ago, and I’ve decided that the thing is just too hot to sleep comfortably.
Has anyone else had this problem? Does anyone have any solutions?
From what I’ve seen browsing the internet, the potential solutions seem to be either trashing the mattress or buying another topper, made of CoolMax our Outlast memory foam, or a latex topper. Is one of these materials superior to the others? Anyone have any personal experiences to share?
First I bought a 100% cotton mattress pad, that helped a lot. They’re not the easiest to find. It has to be cotton filling AND cotton fabric, read carefully because a lot of the ones that say “Cotton” in large letters will be only cotton fabric. Now I have a mattress pad with Outlast, a temperature regulating material. I don’t think the Outlast is a lot better than the cotton if at all.
Design Within Reach sells a memory foam mattress that is covered in Cool Max. It was designed to solve the problem you are experiencing. I would look for a Cool Max cover before trashing the mattress.
