Here’s my thing: I swear on all that is sacred that I have heard an acoustic version of the song, “Overkill” by Men At Work.
Now, normally, I’ve never been much of a Men At Work fan – a little too much pop for me. But the acoustic version of that song, I think, is dynamite.
So, before this degenerates into a Men At Work appreciation thread (not that there’s anything wrong with that)… Am I crazy? Am I the only person on the planet who has heard this mythical acoustic version?
Granted, I haven’t heard it much lately, but that’s because I live in Tallahassee and there’s only room for Creed on our radio stations. So if you’ve heard it, AND you can confirm that I was not hallucinating and such a recording exists… Is it on an album somewhere? A compilation or MTV unplugged? Where can one obtain it?
Back in the Napster days, I searched and searched… couldn’t find the acoustic version. I just browsed through the entire catalog in CDNOW and can’t seem to find it.
Nope, you aren’t nuts. And you’re in luck - the acoustic version in the “pick of the week” of MP3s at about.com’s 80s MP3 pick site. There are links on that page to Colin Hay’s official site, too.
Damn, posted too early before I found more information. Try the Men At Work live album Brazil 96; visit colinhay.com and ask if they know of any official recordings of it.
Y’all sooo rock. I’m hitting the links and getting this song… in fact, I woke up this morning and sung it in the shower.
(I had a big Special Event at work today, of which I was the Master Ringleader in Charge of Damn Near Everything. So it was the perfect song with which to start one’s Big Day.)
Thanks for your replies.
And no, I have not heard this in the supermarket. (I reserve those special supermarket moments for Carly Simon and Phil Collins – both of whom I despise.)
