Songs that should NEVER be made acoustic

On the easy listening station they play at work, I heard an acoustic version of the immortal Tom Petty classic Free Falling. Though the song is not “hard rock” by any means, the purely acoustic version I heard seemed to remove the Petty rock edge and turn it into crappy commercial mush.

What other songs *were *turned acoustic that should have been left alone?

What songs that haven’t been unplugged should never be unplugged?

Kerosene-- Big Black
Supernaut-- Black Sabbath
Personality Crisis-- New York Dolls

My band occasionally does an acoustic cover of “Straight Up,” by Paula Abdul. I’d say it qualifies as something that never should have happened. You can see it here.

(It’s OK to laugh-- it’s supposed to be funny.)

Iron Man – Metallica
Rockit – Herbie Hancock
Dogs of War – Motorhead
Christfuck – Wumpscut (although it would be amusing to hear this played on a folk guitar)
Anything by Crass
Anything by KMFDM

Ace Of Spades.

Yea. Wait a minute. When the hell did Metallica do a cover of Iron Man??

My bad. But by way of recompense, here’s a cover of Metallica doing Iron Man.

Frankenstein - Edgar Winter group

It’s not quite acoustic, but here’s a cover of “Iron Man” by The Cardigans:

Green Onions by Booker T and the MGs.

NIN’s “Closer” and “March of the Pigs”

Pretty much anything by Rammstein. I can’t imagine an acoustic version of Buck Dich.

Sex Pistols - Anarchy in the UK

Misirlou - Dick Dale

The theme from Hawaii 5-0 by The Ventures.

You edited the post you were quoting when you made this response; we have a rule against that, to avoid problems in debates and pittings. I realize that it wasn’t your intention to distort what the person you were quoting said, but pls. don’t do it anyway.

Helter Skelter.

Helter Skelter.

Probably just about anything by the Ramones.

Back in Black - AC/DC

Not exactly “turned acoustic”… but I once heard a muzak version of Born in the USA.

The same 6 notes.

It was… wrong.
