A summary? This is no freakin’ reality show. This show delves into complex relationships: gambling addiction, mid-life crises, romance, sex, parenting, children, professional relationships, husband-wife relations, etc., etc. This is why I love it – it’s complex without trite, mind-numbing b.s. romance/sex scenarios – it’s the closest to real life than any other show that I can think of. Kudos to Ray Romano and his cohorts for coming up with a sophisticated, true-to-life sit-com with which most people can identify. (I may be overly optimistic when I say “most people”; I’m beginning to think that “most people” would prefer to watch American Idol.
I like it because it’s a story I don’t recall seeing that much on tv: that is, “real” life of men, especially middle-aged men.
But, I’m sure I’m wrong about that and there have been other realistic shows about men and how they think?
I’ve tried hard to like this show, but it’s just so depressing that it’s impossible to. And they are all so F’d up! And the have the standard TV issue of giving two losers two hotties, that these guys could never get a date with in real life if their lives depended on it.
I just don’t know what you all see. I wish I saw it.
Huh.
I thought Everybody Loves Raymond.
:: D & R ::
Watched the whole season and loved it. I’m definitely looking forward to the second season. I didn’t necessarily like the characters some, or even most, of the time, but that’s what makes it more realistic to me. I’m glad I gave this one a chance.
baaaah, read my first two posts in this thread. It’s not that complex, and to me, it IS trite, and it’s not that good. Depressing does not equal good, nor does being close to real life equal good. If I wanted to see real life… I’d turn off the tv. Oh yeah, that’s what I did.
I think you pretty much answered all my questions. Someone please correct me if I’m wrong.
Ray Romano still has a gambling problem (loser)
Andre Braugher is still a doormat for his father (loser)
Scott Bakula is still a commitment phone skirt chasing actor wannabe (loser)
Did I miss anything?
Oh, and I’ve never seen American Idol, thank you.
Supposedly not.
Nope.
No, but thanks for playing.
to everyone else who actually has an interest beyond thread-shitting, I have to admit I sort of went into the finale with a little bit of Enright3’s attitude, expecting the stereotypical “everyone’s lives go to hell and we have to wait until next season to see how everything works out!!” sort of finale, and was actually very impressed with the way they pulled it off.
I never had the Ray hate that others here have described, but I certainly wouldn’t have noticed if the guy dropped off the surface of the entertainment world, never to return. I have to say, I’ve gained a lot of respect for the guy on this show. I really enjoy seeing a goofy comedian who suddenly starts showing off serious dramatic chops.
Glad to hear they were renewed and will definitely catch next season.
I think you need to read this entire thread, instead of being the Johnny-Come-Lately. I’m not thread shitting here, I asked for a summary of the final episode. I was more or less told the show is far too complex to do that. Only then did I attempt to guess what happened.
The funny thing is, I don’t know why I asked. I admitted I didn’t care for the show. Unfortunately, I like all three of actors, so I really wanted to like this show. Don’t worry about my thread-shitting any more. I’m outta here.
Despite it being billed as a drama, this and Modern Family were the two funniest shows I’ve seen this year.
I did read the entire thread, actually, and made a reference or two to what some other folks had said. You know… instead of just coming in at the end and asking for a summary.
Okay, so I’m being a bit of a D-bag. Sorry bout that. but…
This. The answer you got was a fair one. You’re asking for a summary of a season finale to a show that you watched, what the first two episodes of? It’s cool if you want to catch up, but surely your Google-Fu is up to it. More constructive than lobbing guesses regarding how much what you missed sucked.
On a more on-topic note, I finally figured out that I recognize Joe’s girlfriend because she was Nina on 24. I sort of hated her on that show, but she’s very likable on this. As a matter of fact, on a whole the casting is pretty killer.
The show won’t come away as one of my favorites, but I am sorry the season is over. I have to give props to whoever put together the early ‘trailers’ (or whatever they’d be called for TV). They represented the show perfectly; it’s pretty much exactly what I thought it was going to be based on the commercials.
My spouse and I are middle aged lesbians and we loved this show. Romano was a trainwreck for sure, but I loved his little muttered one liners. I felt like if I knew him, I would like and miss that about him. Andre Branaugher is just a world of great in everything he’s ever in, and the reason we started watching. Scott Bakula is barely bearable and if he got run over by a bus the first show of next season it would be the best thing that could happen to him and the show.
Loved it, as I can relate to the subject matter. And I thought all three stars were, um, stellar. I like the dark version of Ray Romano, Scott Bakula was solid with some frailties peeking through, and Andre Braugher is Andre Braugher.
