Frederica Mayor Arrested for Third Time

FREDERICA- The mayor of Frederica is in trouble with the law again. The Frederica police said they arrested Mayor William “Chick” Glanden for assault on Saturday night. He was released after posting bail.

This is the third time in six months that Glanden, 50, has been arrested. The first two arrests were made by the Delaware State Police but this arrest was made by the police of the mayor’s own town. All three arrests involve Frederica resident Christopher Langley.

The Frederica police said Langley found the mayor on his property at 11 a.m. Saturday. A previous court order barred the mayor from having any contact with Langley and his family. According to court records, Langley admitted he used expletives, but said Glanden slapped him hard across his left cheek.

Frederica residents were shocked at Saturday’s events and some said they have had enough.

“I’ve just heard so much that I think at this point it’s getting carried away,” said one town resident.

Another resident said, “I think it’s starting to get really stupid. I think they need to come together as a committee and start doing some things for this town. It’s getting out of hand.”

But Glanden’s arrest will not interfere with his job as mayor, at least for now. Town Council members say they cannot take any action yet.

Glanden was charged with third degree assault, criminal trespassing and violating a court order. He could also face additional charges because in early December he was placed on probation before judgement after his last arrest. That means he could be tried on those charges as well as Saturday’s charges.
