I must be one of those people “living under a rock” the articles speak about, because I haven’t seen any of the influencer Kylie Jenner ads for the Meta eyeglasses. But they’ve got people so stirred up, it has caused them to be unbelievably clever in their protests:
I mean, using imagery from the John Carpenter film They Live, and doing it with lenticular displays so that they recall the images from that film is really clever. It also assumes everyone is at least as nerdy as you are, and gets the point.
But this does seem to be a quiet, creeping invasion
Zuckerberg and his creations are a plague on society. I doubt he has the slightest concern about the protests. The only thing that would stop him is an act of Congress, and fat chance of that happening with this bunch of clowns.
Hey, as someone with a more than moderate degree of Prosopagnosia, (face blindness) I’m all for it. I’ve gone through all these years “ignoring” people I know because I simply can’t recognize them, especially outside of the milieu where I normally see them.
I’m talking even about people I’ve known all my life. Last week I had plans to meet up with my sister at the mall, after we’d each done separate errands. When I finished, I came to the food court and started staring around blankly. It wasn’t until my sister got up and walked right up to me that I was sure which middle aged sorta chunky brown haired woman she was.
She knows all about my problems with this, but it’s still embarrassing.
I would not feel comfortable in a space where someone has the glasses as they are essentially always recording. I get the futuristic idea of having heads up displays and shit, but they need some sort of light showing when they are recording and laws that would make it impossible for companies to store any data if the light isn’t on.
But this is Meta. Of course the purpose is to get them the info so they can sell it. There’s no way they’d be trying with restrictions like that.
No, they aren’t. And they have a blinking light when they are. And they try to keep them from working if anyone covers or disables the light. Maybe you should have actually looked into it before making your claims?
So, just as I said, Zuckerberg doesn’t give a shit about the civil liberties objections and is just bulldozing ahead with this scheme. Because $237 billion net worth isn’t enough, you have to keep doubling that!
Yes, they are. It is a necessary aspect to do what they do. The question is whether the data is retained.
You could have posted “Oh, actually, they flash a light when deliberately recording, so at least that part is handled.” But you chose to unnecessarily be a dick.
Not because I did something morally wrong. Not because we were arguing and it got heated. And I’m not in the mood to put up with this shit.
Ya wanna act like a YouTube commenter, then I’ll treat you like one. puts you on mute for a couple weeks
