Metal Gear Solid 5 anyone? Nearly perfect game.

Have I missed the MGS5 thread or has no one started one?

This game is nearly perfect. The controls are the best of any game I have ever played and I’m a 40 year olf man who’s been gaming since the mid 80’s, the graphics and detail are some of the best as well. The missions are truly “beat them however you want”. Alot of games have claimed this before but this is the first one to really deliver on that claim. I thought it would be a drag having to take out the binoculars and survey the base every time I was heading in but it’s been the opposite. Laying on the ground fully assessing the battlefield before going in truly prepares you for the task at hand. It’s no gimmick. It’s very very fun.

The excessive exposition has been dramatically reduced. The opening hour or so is scripted and chatty, but once you get dropped off in Afghanistan its one of the most “open” of any open world game I’ve played. It’s like a perfect marriage between Red Dead Redemption and MGS 4.

Building up Mother Base is loads of fun too. Really makes you think twice about killing an enemy when you could extract him to your army.

Oddly enough this game is pretty much a direct follow-on to the PSP Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker. If you get a chance pick up the HD version of that on PS3. It’s a great game.

The gaming media is really pissing me off though. Lots of “Recruit this SPECIAL CHARACTER to your team in MGS 5!” and “Become THIS in MGS 5!” in their headlines. It’s like spoiler city out there so watch out. I would rather wait to encounter a special character in the game than read about it ahead of time in some fucking headline telling me how to recruit them.

Anyone?

I’ve never played any MGS games, but have you played Dishonored? If you like “Beat 'em how you want,” that’s the best game there is. It’s not the perfect game, I wouldn’t say, but it’s great for people like us who want to redo the level again in a different way, just to see if you can.

Being a PC gamer this series has pretty much passed under my radar, and what little Iv’e seen of the… eh… “story”, kept me uninterested.

But all I hear are great things about the gameplay and the sandbox experience, so I’ll be picking it up later this year.

I thought MSG4 was pretty perfect. My main issue was the PS3 aspect. With MSG5 on PC I will get it, but the price will have to drop a bit first.

I liked MGS4 for the most part. The insane length of cut scenes, even by MGS standard, and the absolutely asinine ending keep me from replaying it though.

MGS4 Ending:

Snake lived and there was a wedding. Letting Snake live was a huge cop-out and the wedding shit was so stupid.

The cut scenes were too long. They always put me to sleep. Also, I do sort of agree about the ending Snake should have been allowed to die but the game play was flawless.

Have you played 5 yet or Phantom Pain? You will see the flaws in 4 once you play 5. Hehe.
