Meteor Church and Shoemaker?

Okay, I just watched a PBS special the other night on Gene Shoemaker. One of the bits was about his trip to a “crater” in Germany and a large chucrch that was made of meteor-like rock. I can’t remember the town name, the church name or anything. I am trying to find pictures or even just a story related to this place. However, I am having a difficult time searching the internet for it.

If anyone has any information to share, I would appreciate it.

Does this sound right?

Nordlingen is another unique town along the Romantic Road. It lies at the center of a 30-mile meteor crater dating back more than a million years. The impressive Gothic church that stands at the center of Nordlingen is purported to be at the very center of the crater.

Close…might be right, but I can’t quite tell from the pictures. I doubt there are that many “meteor churches” in Germany. I will do a search on the town name of Nordlingen. Thank you!
