Meteors in general aren’t particularly rare, but most of them aren’t very bright. Was it as bright as Venus, or as bright as a very bright star, or a typical star, or a very dim star?
I’d say a very bright star or Venus, but don’t specifically remember. It caught my eye mostly because it was in my line of vision while I drove, and it was in a part of the sky that was tainted with light pollution from the nearby town. There were no other stars visible in that part of the sky.
Here’s some info about the Wednesday night meteor.
Note that the “before midnight Thursday” actually means just before midnight on Wednesday.
The meteorites are in Hamburg Township, around 50 miles west of Mount Clemens in the direction of Lansing. So ha, and ha. Found by Robert Ward (who once shared a much more stressful meteorite expedition.)
