Meteor shower in 2015?

I have a friend that I think is being taken in by a religious nutball. She sent me an email telling me about some of the things her classmate as claimed and one of them is this:

“The rapture is supposed to take place in the life span of a person after Israel becomes a nation (about 70-80 yrs) Israel became a nation in 1948 so that would put the rapture around 2018. She said scientist know that there will be a meteor shower in 2015 that would not destroy the world but will cause some damage. The meteor shower would coincide with the ‘fire from the sky’ that’s expected in middle of the tribulation.”

This is the first I have ever heard of said Meteor shower. Is this true?

Also, if anyone knows, where can I find good, solid information about this “rapture?” (Not conspiracy pages.)

The alpha centaurid shower will possibly be especially intense in 2015 (see table on page 12). Of course there are meteor shows every year, and as shown by the table, outbursts of activity from the known streams nearly every year.

I can also remember a bit in Revelations, I believe, saying that no man can see the end. I always think of that when I hear/see things like that.

You might be thinking of the verse from Matthew (24:36), which is Jesus saying:

“But of that day and hour no one knows, no, not even the angels of heaven, but My Father only.” (New King James Version)

I always think of that one, too, when flipping past Jack Van Impe and his shriveled wife talking about how near the end is on the Christian channel. Since people have been doing this since Jesus’s time, I guess the Van Impe’s are right in a relative sense. But Revelation is such an acid trip of a book; how can anyone tell what any of the symbols are really symbolizing?
