I saw this video over at a friend’s and laughed my cookies off. It’s called “Apple Engineer Talks About New 2016 Macbook Pro.” Now that I’m sober, I suspect this guy really isn’t an Apple Engineer, but he’s so crazy and has such a funny screeching laugh, I’m guessing it’s a clip from a talk show that got repurposed with different subtitles to fit whatever absurd situation a meme writer comes up with.
Can any Spanish speaker tell if he’s really talking about Dongles?
Even with my shaky Spanish, I can say with confidence that he isn’t.
He’s not Mexican, he’s Andalusian and talking about working in a beach restaurant. Definitely not one where I would’a liked to eat (he wouldn’t either). Oh, and apparently his nickname is Risitas or “giggles”, which is what this cartoon character is called in Spain (not the character’s official name, but nobody would be able to identify that blasted dog by its actual name).
This is an old TV Show (Ratones Coloraos -2007-, literally “Colorful mice”, only with a typo in the “colorful” part to make it reflect the typical Andalusian pronunciation) for the local Andalusian channel conducted by Jesús Quintero, celebrated Spanish radio and TV personality noteworthy for his tendency to interview regular people, as opposed to the rich and famous, or in some cases the freaks and rejects of society.
this is Juan Joya, an, admittedly, not particularly bright random guy. He’s talking about working as a beach bar dishwasher, and losing a bunch of paella pans by letting them dry by the shore, coming back and finding them washed away. It became a meme in Spanish media, and for the last couple of years has become more of an International meme, used in the same way the clip from the Hitler movie The Downfall is used: adding humorous subtitles on any random subject.
Ratones coloraos is Red Mice, actually: Colorful would be coloreados (or, in Andalusian, coloreaos).
