Mexico goes to the polls this weekend. 132 politicians have been killed since campaigning began, per one count.

Most people in America, with the exception of people with Mexican ancestry, do not know the slightest thing about Mexico. People have no idea about its geography, its politics, the different states of Mexico, or anything else. Despite the fact that people from Mexico often serve as the manpower that actually keeps America’s industries running properly, they don’t know. Most Americans also don’t have the faintest idea about the concept of remittance workers - the fact that many of these people are working so that they can send money back to Mexico and eventually go back there themselves, not so that they can bring their families over here. Not that the families of Mexicans shouldn’t come here if they want to, but the idea of an “invasion” of migrant families “taking over” America is pure bullshit.
People also don’t realize how lawless and dangerous many parts of Mexico are, which is what motivates a lot of the migration (although many of the migrants into America are from points south of Mexico.)
Wait, I thought that Mexico sent all of their bad people over here. Shouldn’t Mexico be pure and pristine now?
Perhaps the cameras and news people should ask the USA victims from illegals crossing the boarder?
The number of victims of illegal immigrants is pissing into the ocean compared to the number of Americans victimized by other American citizens.
I get that there are some issues, like unlicensed drivers killing people - the driving standards should be enforced much more stringently (this goes for native born Americans as much as immigrants.) All told, though, this country does not have a disproportionate problem with illegal immigrants committing crimes, when compared with overall crime.
NAFTA may have had some negative consequences on American labor, but American farmers have crushed some of their counterparts in Mexico, with subsidies that have driven prices down. IIRC, there are more than 2 million farm jobs that have been lost in Mexico. At the same time, their food costs have gone up. Some of the farmers took their skills to farms in the U.S.; some others joined the drug trade.
Neverminding the validity of your claim, is this supposed to make me hate Mexicans or something? In other words, what the fuck is your point? Say what you are trying to say.
He can’t say what he means without revealing his racism
Mexico and Central America will continue to be fountains of desperate people until it becomes livable there. Most likely, this will be impossible without massive effort and expenditure on our part. And there isn’t the slightest chance we are willing to do it.
So I’m guessing no one actually wants to discuss what is almost certain to be a historic election on Sunday?
I don’t much like speculating when all the prospects appear grim. Perhaps Monday or Tuesday some hope may emerge. As is so often the case, I would love to be wrong.
What is it that you’re concerned about?
When did you develop this intense curiosity about my opinions? Perhaps you have some of your own?
I’m saying their politics is pretty screwed up. Have you ever heard of that many people killed in politics in nations without dictators calling the shots? The violence around politics prevents an estimated 20% from voting out of fear.
And I’m also saying the USA victims at the hands of illegals is a nameless and faceless group.
Why not point the cameras on the USA victims at the hands of illegals from Mexico. Let’s hear their stores and for a change?
What would you have to fear except the truth? Ah, maybe Trump would have point. Yep, that’s it. So quickly play all race cards and omit the facts!!!
Did we meet in a previous life?
I just want it to be known that “illegals” is a dehumanizing term and, at this point, essentially a dogwhistle. These are human beings. And most of them don’t victimize anyone.
I don’t have anything to fear. And when I start a thread I say what the fuck I have to say in the first fucking place, Comrade.
Let’s just appreciate all those who are standing for democracy in the face of such violence. And let’s just appreciate those murdered for having stood up to be counted.
If the vast number of such victims is so well hidden, how did you find out? You have special sources of information? Well, OK, bring.
Same thing, you got, you bring. Haven’t really heard that many stories from the migrants. Heard their kids crying.
We omitted the facts, and you’ve got them? So, what are you waiting for? I call, what you got?
I know nothing about Mexican politics but >100 dead politicians sounds huge, are these all parliament/senate level politicians or more local?
