I don’t know if Michael Jackson is the victim of racism.
I do suspect he is the victim of mental illness…
Which leads me to ask my fellow dopers: Doesn’t the state of California have any legislation comparable to the Mental Health Acts of Canadian jurisdictions that would call for the appointment of a public guardian for someone exhibiting the symptoms of Mr. Jackson? Couldn’t they at least require a 72 hour remand for psychiatric evaluation? Or do you have to wait until he does something criminal before appointing a public guardian?
He claimed that his last album didn’t do well because Sony didn’t promote it well enough.
Why didn’t they promote it?
Well, because they are RACISTS!!! They hate black people. In fact, there is a conspiracy against black musicians in the record industry apparently, and they are out to wreck MJ’s career.
I think you need to convince either a judge or mental health professional that someone is a danger to themselves or others before you can have them involuntarily committed. Career suicide or crap albums aren’t really enough.
I haven’t been paying much attention to this guy either, but heres what I can recall.
Well, lets see here: Turning himself into a freakish albino thru a series of skin-bleachings. Submitting to a series of surgerys that can best be described as “multilation” to transform him into a resemblance of a young white girl. Molesting young boys, then paying off the families to “keep their mouth shut”, so to speak. Marrying Elvis’ daughter. Hangin’ with monkeys and that Culkin kid. Living on a “fantasy island” ranch, complete with zoo and amusement rides.
Oh, yeah! Claiming racism for his shitty album, too! Almost forgot that one!
I think his worst transgression is he drinks Pepsi! Yuck!!
Correct me if I’m wrong, but there’s more to MJ than just mental illness. He can be extraordinarly “mean” himself. I believe he outbid his “friend” Paul McCartney (who had considerably helped MJ’s career) when the Beatles copyrights came up for auction, and effectively put new releases of Beatle material in the deep freeze for years.
However, they’d never put him away…I mean a Hollywood personality? A two week stay at an exclusive clinic, at most.
One of the rumors flying around was that he had used the beatle’s music as collateral for the new album. Since MJ didn’t do so hot, I guess Sony would own the rights to beatle’s music right?
Eccentricity does not equal mental illness, but MJ is more than just eccentric. To wear nothing but yellow is eccentric. To mutilate yourself repeatedly for 20 years indicates mental illness.
I can’t look at his face without wincing either. His nose is so weird… It looks like it fell off from cocaine, and then the cosmetic surgeon just stretched some skin over the remainder.
He seems to compulsively seek cosmetic surgery. At least he isn’t demanding amputations (a particular form of mental illness.) If he weren’t an alleged pedophile, I’d feel very sorry for him.
