Link’s not working for me, Sam.
Great job, Michael!
Nothing like telling it like it is to rankle the Dubya sheeple!
Does anyone else think it’s ironic that the audience booed a guy for giving a poltical speech but gave a standing ovation to a child rapist? Doesn’t Polansky deserve to get booed at least a little bit?
Hell yeah he does.
I stopped reading this thread after the second page. D the Cynic, are you still clinging to the notion that Moore was booed for his politics? You can’t find a more anti-Bush crowd in one place in America than at the Oscars. He was booed because he was an asshole.
Well, five really loud people.
I still don’t get the ‘heroic’ part. Publicly stating an unpopular opinion is not, in and of itself, heroic. And I strongly suspect that if the audience all clapped politely, Moore would have been really, really, really disappointed.
I’m pretty sure this was exactly the reaction he was going for. Now he can play the misunderstood and persecuted champion of truth fighting against a sea of evil and ignorance.
Bowling for columbine was great film. Sure, it had a very clear agenda and Moore took more than a few liberties. I disagreed with a lot of his points and a few of his tactics. But it got me thinking and discussing, and it kept me entertained.
This is too much ado about nothing. We could expect nothing less from Moore. The irony is that those who rail against Moore are actually helping him out. If you want to hurt him, ignore him.
You fucking idiot.
Please tell me how pleading guilty to statutory rape of a 13 year old drugged girl and then jumping bail in any way equates to anything MM has ever done in his life.
oh fuck off. the french didn’t “harbour” him. He committed no crime in France, and if the US choose to bring extradition proceedings against him, France will comply.
Hey, let’s slow down here. What did Michael Moore actually do?
- He said the president was not elected properly.
Holy fuck, guess what! It’s true! That’s been fairly well established, no matter how many times the Repbulicans say “that was 2 years ago, haven’t you gotten over that yet?”
- He said the war in Iraq was being undertaken for ‘ficticious’ reasons.
Hey, this is true too. Every single reason put forth by the White House has been pathetic. Saddam has WOMD? Go attack Pakistan. Saddam is breaking UN Security Council Resolutions? Go attack Israel. Saddam is horribly mistreating his own people? Go attack Zimbabwe. Saddam is a threat to the United States? Go get a clue.
-
The Oscars are an inappropriate forum for the views aired.
As has been mentioned in this thread, the organisers have said he can talk about whatever the hell he wants in his allotted time. Seems that the forum is perfectly appropriate. -
He spoke for the other nominees, using them as pawns in his politicking.
Not so. According to the Sydney Morning Herald, Moore ‘tapped his fellow documentary nominees and asked them to join him on stage for what he explained would be an “anti-Bush” speech.’
Looks like they knew what was going on. Looks like they didn’t have a problem going up on stage to support Mr Moore. Looks like you will all have to find some other way to prove just how rude this awful awful man was.
- He spoke badly of President George W Bush
Yeah, apparently America looks down on criticising its leaders. I don’t understand why, but you ain’t meant to speak ill of the President. If it’s rude not to tip toe around the White House’s inadequacies, then goddammit, he was rude.
Get fucked all of you. He made a perfectly appropriate speech, on a perfectly appropriate topic.
gex gex if I’m ever somewhere were you are you’re drinking. Guaranteed*
*[sub]This is not a guarantee[/sub]
No, no. They’re saying he’s a theat to the entire world, which is all the more ridiculous. First, the Kurds. Then he marches on France and attacks Russia…
Sings First he’ll take Manhattan, then he takes Berlin.
It’s only “fairly well established” in the minds of people who just can’t get it through their thick heads that “close” does not equal “improper.”
And it’s not just Republicans who are saying, “Get over it.”
PunditLisa: How “fairly well established” do you need it? There were blacks (who typically vote Democrat) being illegitimately removed from the electoral role pre-election in Florida, there were difficulties by blacks voting at some polling places, there were military (tend to vote Republican) postal votes postmarked after the date of the elction being counted, there was the dodgy restrictions on which votes were actually to be re-counted (by both parties), continual republican inteference during the recount designed to slow and hinder the process, and finally there was the biggest trespass of democracy: Katherine Harris and the Florida court system ending the recount before it could be finished, and just as Gore was closing the gap.
I retract what I said earlier. That goes beyond the realm of “fairly well established.” That was a definite Gore victory.
WE WILL NOT GET OVER THE THEFT OF THE PRESIDENCY OF THE UNITED STATES! THE SUBVERSION OF DEMOCRACY IS NOT A FORGETTABLE OFFENSE!!!
The men who did it are traitors and belong in jail.
Is that you Mike?
What gives? The second part of your post doesn’t deserve all caps?
Your pos got off to such a great “STICK IT TO THE MAN!!” start! The prose sang! The heartful emotions screamed for an audience!
And then the punchline…the chance to bring it all home…you picked that moment to disengage your caps lock key?
Where’s the humanity, man?
Cite, please?
It is my understanding that this idea was passed around a lot and then the media went to FL to try and talk to some of these voters and they couldn’t find any.
Of course, there is always a strong possibilty that I am wrong–it wouldn’t be the first or the last time…
From this [http://www.usatoday.com/news/washington/2001-04-03-floridamain.htm]USA Today
Yup, he stole that sucker alright.
Stole it? Maybe stole isn’t the right word, but the media recount showed that under statewide recounts using new standards now settled on to try and accurately record the intents of the voters, Gore would have won by a narrow margin. Other standards of voting resulted in wins for Bush. The real issue is whether the peope of Florida wanted to elect Bush or Gore. The media recount showed using the most accurate tests, Gore won.
Speaking of that USA Today article:
