Michael Moore = ass.

Thank you! It’s made for some interesting post/sig combos, due to the mechanism that changes one’s sig retroactively.

I saw the Oscars tonight and am wondering if anyone can actually recall what Brody said? Or can you find a cite? He was articulate and very endearing.

Moore was classless. Wrong venue, right sentiment.

Lastly, I’m with Zoe about the other nominees that Moore took on stage with him. How does everyone definitively know that those people were unaware of what he was going to do?

They looked pretty damned uncomfortable.

Um, you do realize that “hero” is not necessarily synonymous with “popular”, don’t you?

Micheal Moore is an ass, who knew???.

The man is the very definition of ass. He’s a professional ass. It’s what he does!!! He’s damn good at it, in fact.

My wife had it on with the sound low, so I saw more than heard. What I saw was cheers. There were boos, but they must have been somewhere other than the main audience. The crew maybe?

Michael Moore may indeed be the poster child for far left, anti-american, elitist blowhards. Other than that he’s an “artist.” Talk about a sore loser…

Mr. Rilch, reading over my shoulder, has a reply to that.

“We’ll see how much of a hero he is when he starts his next project. I don’t see anyone in Hollywood giving him a dime after this.”

Tejota: Did you see people applauding? Standing up? I heard a rumble, which admittedly might have been one of approbation, but I know what an ovation looks like, and I don’t think that was it.

japatlgt: Sore loser? He won the award.

Yeah … if they’re smart enough to make documentaries nominated for a major award, they’re probably smart enough to ask questions when a guy like Michael Moore asks them to come up on stage with him.

FIRST FILMMAKER: Hey, Michael, why do you want us to come out there with you?

MOORE: Um, well, I heard there’s going to be cake!

SECOND FILMMAKER: Oh, wow! I love … hey, you’re not planning to make some kind of controversial speech, are you?

MOORE: OK, you figured me out.

FIRST FILMMAKER: Look, man, we don’t mind supporting you. But lying about cake is not cool.

Jeez, people, if the guy who actually puts the show on says it’s ok, what are you all getting so excited about?

It would be one thing if he really derailed the proceeding trying to make a long speech. But it sounds like he stayed within his 45 seconds, made one pointed comment, and did manage to relate it to his work as a filmmaker (that being what the Oscars were celebrating at that particular moment.)

And apparently he did it with Mr. Cate’s permission.
If you suceed in your profession and are rewarded with your 45 second moment in the sun and you choose to spend it critiquing the actions of your government (as is the responsibilty of every good citizen) , how is that so terrible?

Since this is the pit…

You complete PRICK. You have the fucking nerve to call me a LIAR in Great Debates for saying that Moore was booed off the stage, and now I find out that you didn’t even hear what was going on?

Whatever microscopic scrap of respect I had for you or your opinions was completely obliterated by the sheer gall of your calling someone else a liar on a guess.

Asshole.

It’s terrible if you get loud. It’s terrible if you use a hostile tone. It’s terrible if you make an accusation. It’s terrible if you imply that you’re better than other people.

I totally disagree. That film was sappy, misleading propaganda disguised as a documentary. My head hurt from :rolleyes:ing so much during the theater.

It’s fine is you want to make your opinion known, but don’t bullshit everyone by brazenly calling it a documentary. I’m sure he had quite a few good points in the movie, but since the bulk of it was such insulting spoon-fed goat vomit, I have no desire to hear any points he makes.

If the Oscar thing was isolated, it’d be one thing, but coupled with the sad fact that he was up there in the first place for that pile- er- documentary, he’s immediately tuned out. Which is hard to do when you have hundreds of people and a full orchestra trying to drown you out.

I quess he was able to bullshit a number of people, seeing as how it was nominated and actually won.

2 questions:

  1. What other category could it have gone in?

  2. Does a documentary have to be impartial?
    Seriously…

Where’s the Steve Martin thread? He slagged off France and Germany within a few minutes of the ceremony start. He wasn’t booed but his joke kinda fell on it’s arse.

M Moore said what he wanted to say. He won the Oscar. It’s his speech. Tough shit if you don’t like it.

Good on ya Mike.

I’d go so far as to say that Moore would have been inconsistent if he hadn’t mouthed off.

Moore specialises in televisual stunts and hijacks. In my opinion, it was his duty as Michael Moore to do this, and he fulfilled his duty.

Aye, and good on him for doing so.

The thing is you are fucking wrong. He was not booed off the stage. He left the stage when he was finished. Yes there was a lot of booing and there was cheering aswell. I looked at all the show live BTW and am very tired now becasue of it.

So where the fuck are you, Sol, every time another country music star steps up to praise the President and the war against Iraq? Isn’t that “inappropriate” too? Of course, I fully expect you’ll rationalize that somehow, but of course, it’s just another fucking entertainer expressing an opinion.

The horror! How will the country survive if people in the public eye state what’s on their minds!

And how about these religious entertainers pushing their God on me all the time by thanking him. Bastards

I flipped channels when the spanish guy ( who in the hell was he anyway?) gave his speech and missed it. Can some one clue me in?

This I missed in Michael Moore’s spew. This is just too funny. As if the Dixie Chicks have any power over the government to stop the war. HAH. Has Barbara Streisand left the country yet? ( At least she showed tact last night, which surprised me.)
U2?
